10 Ways to Use Pink in a Girl's Room
As a little girl, I was girly. Ribbons in the hair, ruffly skirts, cotton candy pink walls and Laura Ashley bedspread girly. Now that I live in a house with a very boyish husband and son, I've traded out the florals for something less abrasively feminine (and given up some of my ribbon storage to make room for tools and cars). But that doesn't mean I can't dream.
Last night, I met my brand new, less than a week old, niece for the first time - and I saw her nursery for the first time, too. It couldn't be girlier. Pink walls, pink and green curtains, toile all over the place. Even the inside of her closet is pink. I loved it.
It got me thinking, though, that there are tons of shades of pink, and tons of ways to make it work in a little girl's room. Any one of these ten tips would be a good starting place:

It got me thinking, though, that there are tons of shades of pink, and tons of ways to make it work in a little girl's room. Any one of these ten tips would be a good starting place:
1. Bold & Floral. There's no mistaking that this is a girl's room - but its not weak at all. It's got a cool surfer girl feel thanks to the scale of the flowers and the strong colors.
2. Drenched in one shade. This room is so fun and I love that all the pinks are so similar.
3. Keep it spare. Minimalist lines are a great complement for pink in a girl's nursery. The clean lines and all that natural light keep the room looking fresh, not cloying.
4. Make it a mishmash. This girl's room in Beach Bungalow 8 is fun and cool because it's not overly stylized. It's got personality. It's also got room to grow - this pink (especially in that poster) is not just for little girls.
5. Stay traditional. The Pottery Barn Kids catalog is filled with bedrooms that look a little like this one - pretty bedding, girly canopies, big monograms, and of course, tons of pink. It's traditional and popular for a reason - it's got sweet sleepover written all over it.
6. Shocking, feminine, modern. Vanessa de Vargas' chairs on the wall combine Schiaparelli color with Louis style for a statement that's full of grown up girl power.
7. Just the bedding. Going with strong pinks on the bed is a great way to make a statement without committing fully to the color.
8. Go retro with orange. Pink, red, and orange is a fun color combination. Paired with simple, big designs, it's one part mid-century, one part fabulous.
9. Make it bright. This outrageous bedroom would be perfect for a little girl with a bit personality. I love the way the pink works with the lime green. And I LOVE the parasols.
