Black floors with black windows

I am moving into a new house and would like to do white walls and ceilings ( Benjamin Moore’s oxford white) black windows and my style is contemporarY. Can I also do black hardwood floors? It’s an open floor plan and large spaces with big windows so a lot of light. Planning on gray white and black furnituRe. Color will come from art work on walls. Thanks

I like "the look" but would caution you to select a "soft" black shade for all. Very important to have samples done, at least 3 square feet of the flooring for example, as opposed to two or three boards.

Your plan sounds fine, but have you ever lived with dark floors? They will show absolutely EVERYTHING, every fleck of dust, strand of hair, piece of dirt, down to the smallest crumb. Really think through the practicality of them.

We were also wanting windows with black interiors and exteriors. For us the local availability brought it down to a choice between Pella or Milgard fiberglass windows. The Pella offerings were somewhat pricier, and we could never quite understand the why of it. We wound up selecting Milgard Ultra, and we're happy with the end results. And Milgard's warranty was fantastic, as our landscaper accidentally hit one window with a stone and chipped it, but Milgard replaced the insert without so much as a blink. One factor is whether a particular manufacturer's black is acceptable to you. Milgard's is called Black Bean, which is a bit lighter than true black, and I fussed over this for quite a while. Pella's may have been very slightly blacker, but also not true black. Now that we can see the final product in place, it looks fine. Good luck on your project. Brian

If you want to go with Marvin, know that they can only do square and rectangle in the infinity and essential lines. If you have a 18x48 (like we do in two bathrooms), they cannot do them and be operational. They must be fixed. To do any arch or shape, you have to go with Marvin Ultimate (fiberglass and wood) and then still, they may have to be casement, fixed or double hung. a 36x78 Ultimate window with an arch top will run about $2838.83. An Essential 36 x 18 fixed window with an arch (like above a front door) is $729.45. A rectangle transom Essential 36 x 18 fixed ran $257.37. Installation not included.

Here is my mock-up with two over one. I did one with the existing trim in red for clarity. It is almost non-existent. I see now you are going to add to the trim. The top of the bottom windows will have to be replaced too, because they are not wide enough. I agree with you that the trim should be white. The black seems heavy handed. Second picture with two black trim on the top left and two with white on the right. Lower level shows one of each. The trim I used was not wide. One other issue is what is the center window going to look like in black? Can you do a trim there?

In combination with black doors, this can become over kill in a big hurry. The light.........and the too heavy below. Sorry....... the first THREE look great, the last???? Not for me. As t0 your powder room? You love it. Fine, but far better with a WHITE casing around the black, the paper seems over powered by the weightiness of the window.. ......jmho. Careful with this black drama, A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY. .. At some point you'll be painting again : )

Black floors would drive me crazy ! I’m too OCD for that. I recently had my very light toned hardwood ( had to, damage ) replaced with a medium toned walnut. They’re beautiful, but I find myself hard surface vacuuming them & “ Swiftering” them daily. Depends upon your lifestyle & tolerance for visual imperfections.

So dark brown floors are just as bad as black floors. Any dark floor is going to show everything . They look beautiful, but only when spotless which is hard to achieve. If you want an easy to maintain floor look for a medium-dark stain.

No dark floors. Dirt will be your worst nightmare.

We had a gunstock stained floor. It was awful and not even close to dark/black. My sister in law has some kind of natural of clear finish on her oak floors and it hides pet hair, dirt, etc. very well. If I ever install wood again it'll be a natural finish.

I have Jacobean floors that are dark, but not nearly black. Just another idea to give you options.

IMO if you love black do it. A swiffer is ahandy tool for dark floors and I think black floors would be awesome.
