Thanks for responding. I believe I am more on the contemporary side but then again I could be traditional but I think its more contemporary. But here is the rug I was looking at but it has circles and I think this will clash with the drapes. The rug is from Nieman Marcus but I am not willing to pay over $2000.00 for it. My budget is $1000.00 or less. I'M A CHEAPIE :-) The rug seems to have all my colors. As soon as I find the disk to upload to my computer then I can post a picture of my family room. Thanks for any suggestions...I am open to all...all of you have such good taste.

@RL Relocation, For a while I was looking at Jute rugs because I loved the texture and natural colors they came in and I felt they would be neutral enough to explore different colors with other design elements. After taking a step back I realize I want a rug that's a little softer, easy to clean and one that has a simple design would be nice. It could be lightly abstract but I don't want anything with overwhelming patterns. I'm big on neutral colors. I'm thinking the material could be a cotton/ wool blend, polyester or possibly some other synthetic fiber. Really hope I answered your question lol.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I like the idea of some blue in the rug to pull from the photo above the fireplace, but I couldn't seem to find the right blue. A lot of the carpets had too bright of a blue. I'm limited to choices though because I'll only order from somewhere that has a store in my area where I can easily return the rug if I don't like it. I've decided to give this Safavieh carpet a try, I have it on order. I'm hoping the pattern and texture will provide enough interest. I'll work on the chair after that. I wonder if a chair with blue in it will still work if I get this carpet? I can tie the chair in by adding a few more toss cushions to the couch with blue in them and a couple of blue accessories throughout the rest of the space.

Oh, that helps. I didn't realize there were two sofas. I would turn the coffee table so it faces same TV look. It will open the feeling of the space some. Can the sofa in front of the windows go further back? It is really crowded looking? Do you have room measurements so we can determine rug sizing? I put 8 x 10 size in the "in the room" pictures I posted. I think getting some contrast in the space would be a good idea. Maybe some art over the fireplace would help as well. I'll check in tomorrow.
