Need help with choosing new area rug and chair for living room
My worn out Costco shag rug has to go. I'm looking for suggestions for a new one. My walls used to be a gray colour and recently we painted them a light creamy colour. The rug makes even less sense now. My thoughts were to go with a light colour rug to tie in with the couch cushions and other lighter elements in the room.
These are some rugs I was thinking of. I would appreciate any feedback and/or other options.

safavieh bella ivana silver ivory I love this one, but not sure if it the silver in the rug would work with everything else being so warm in the room.
I'm also wanting to replace the chair that is next to the fireplace. I could get another chair the same as the one near the couch, but one with an ottoman would be nice. The couch may be coming across as grayish in the photo, but it's actually quite brown.

2 years agoI prefer the first due to its pattern and having more of a textured feel. The same chair might be the best choice and just add a fun pouff.
With an injection of a new color, I‘d mix some new cushions with your ivory ones on the couch.
Prints and an additional color will add interest and room will feel more layered. Another idea is going with a sisal type rug; the room below has a warm and inviting, layered feel.

Help I need to find a area rug for the living room
Comments (1)ok do I ordered a couch loveseat chair and ottaman....I have black wrought iron tables with glass top...the coffee table has 3 drawers that are reclaimed wood. Comments (11)I think a rich cream color would look very nice with the rest of the room. I am thinking something very much as the pillows in the left of your photo appear. Then if you're not totally wed to the mirror above the fireplace you can bring in artwork and some candles to pick up the cream of the chair. I assume the recliner you mentioned is in the upper right hand side (where for some reason another commenter moved a television into place.). I also got the Sven leather bench/coffee table. prices are very reasonable. Then find the accessories. bring in some art or a rug w/color. I really loved the sven in the blue. this would look great w/your floor and cream wall color. (it is cream, right, and not the yellow in the picture?) 2 years agoI think the image from HD of the Safaveh rug is deceiving. It not two tone. It's all white but two heights. I think this would look very good in your room.

2 years agoThanks for the suggestions everyone. I like the idea of some blue in the rug to pull from the photo above the fireplace, but I couldn't seem to find the right blue. A lot of the carpets had too bright of a blue. I'm limited to choices though because I'll only order from somewhere that has a store in my area where I can easily return the rug if I don't like it.
I've decided to give this Safavieh carpet a try, I have it on order. I'm hoping the pattern and texture will provide enough interest. I'll work on the chair after that. I wonder if a chair with blue in it will still work if I get this carpet? I can tie the chair in by adding a few more toss cushions to the couch with blue in them and a couple of blue accessories throughout the rest of the space.

The colouring is not what I was expecting. It's description is ivory and silver. It's got quite a strong yellow tone. The lower pile of the carpet is supposed to have silver in, but it's definitely purple. It may look okay in the overall photo below, but it's not working at all in the space, it looks off.
