Thanks for responding. I believe I am more on the contemporary side but then again I could be traditional but I think its more contemporary. But here is the rug I was looking at but it has circles and I think this will clash with the drapes. If I can find something that is elegant that would be fine also but it is a family room!

I DON'T THINK SO.....looks funny together.

The rug is from Nieman Marcus but I am not willing to pay over $2000.00 for it. My budget is $1000.00 or less. I'M A CHEAPIE :-) The rug seems to have all my colors. As soon as I find the disk to upload to my computer then I can post a picture of my family room.

You could try Overstock.com or Ebay.

For $1000 you might be able to get a hand-knotted rug. The link is to a rug that might not be the right colors but was the first 8 x 10 that I ran into.

I once found a rug I loved at Horchow (which it the same as Neinam Marcus). I could not afford the high price tag for the 13 x 11 rug. As fate would have it, I was in TJ Maxx a few months later and they had it for $1200.

P.S. I have bought a rug in the past from Horchow that I could find nowhere else that I loved so much I was willing to pay the price and my dog immediately decided it needed to be used as a bathroom. It cost me $300 just to have it washed and cleaned.

I like the rug you have picked in terms of color matching but need to see the room to understand the style you are going for.

I don't think spending 1000 for a family room is being a cheapie-- I think it is practical. It is likely one of your most used rooms. You don't want to be uptight everytime someone has a snack while watching tv.

I do think the rug is a bit much for striped curtains but it really depends on how your room is laid out, how big, is the sofa between the rug and the curtains? Pictures would definitely help to get a feel for your style and space.
