Need help picking an area rug
Please help. I've been searching for weeks to find a nice area rug to tie in my living room space. My challenge has been this - we plan to upgrade the flooring to a softer, darker brown color different from what's pictured here and we already have a coffee table (not pictured) that is a medium/ dark brown color and curtains (also not put up yet) that are around the same color as my couch. So I'm trying to pick a rug around all of that and those items aren't in the space yet because we're not done renovating. (Oh yea, that white tape is on the floor because I was trying to determine the size I wanted the rug to be)

Comments (9)The living room rug is to large for the sun room but I could use one of the other options (in the larger size) in the living room. How small can an area rug be? I thought the feet of all furniture are suppose to be on an area rug. Is it ok to have a small area rug in a large room? My living room is something like 20'x14" so I thought I would need at least a 9x12 or 10ft round for furniture placement. The round medallian rug only comes in a 6' or 8' round so I am not sure if the scale would work but the colors do and I could buy it in a large rectange tho. thanks for the ideas:) Should I treat the floor like one large room and use two matching area rugs in different sizes or even maybe shapes?...See MorePlease help me pick out an area rug.
Comments (8)It's too confusing for me....I think all the rugs seem to go much better with the carpet color in the room pictures---which you say is not representative--- instead of your actual background sample. It is hard not to choose based on the "wrong" color in your collage. but it looks like the rugs are all very similar in color and composition, so if you like them all I am sure the one you pick will go as well as any other. 4 years ago@RL Relocation - so I'm really in love with earth tones and I'm trying to stick to a neutral palette so I can accommodate those colors. I'm really into sienna orange, browns and greens specifically. Here's a shot of a living room I like and my coffee table is about this color.

I'm starting to look for rugs, and you'd think this would be easy but there are a number of issues. First, I think you may want to rethink the toss pillows. I am not sure they complement your sectiona.
Off white as seen below is not a good complement for the sectional. It makes the sectional look dirty.

4 years agoThank you all so much for your feedback. It's actually been very helpful. So my sectional is actually a light beige color but my lighting is terrible in this photo lol. It's not gray at all. In person it's the same color of the first couch I shared a picture of. Here's a closeup with MUCH better lighting. 😊
