Help with cabinet door sizes!
Comments (8)My largest upper is 44" wide. I did some sketches and liked it best with four doors (to pairs). The cab needed a rail in the middle anyway. I don't like the look of door/rail/door though that is what I've got in both my lower sink and cooktop cabinets (they are 36" wide). I also have a DH that can walk into anything - and one side of this cabinet is along the doorway into the master bedroom - the smaller the door sticking out, the less likely he'll run into it. If the cab was in the middle of the run this would not be as big of an issue. I have not decided for sure yet, but I am leaning towards having these be glass doors so I can see all my colorful dishes and mugs. My walls are not tall so they are made to go all the way to the ceiling, with a 5" cove at the top. BTW - I am putting a display case above my hood. It's not real tall but is 36" wide. I'm putting one door, but it hinges from the top and will have three mullions in it. Multiple doors closed the area up too much with the width of the frames needed. Comments (9)Many interior decorators like the use of knobs for the cabinet doors and pulls for the drawers. After considering all of my options, I decided to go the same size pull for all the doors and drawers. To my way of seeing it, that just made the kitchen more cohesive. Once I made the decision to go with all pulls, I did consider different sizes for different sized doors and drawer. However, I did not like the appearance at all. So just went with one size for all. It is very important to use pulls with smooth edges to prevent snagging. For example look for the first type, not the second type shown below. These are just my guidelines for your consideration. I have been attempting to get the pictures to post at a decent size and they will not - they are gigantic. But look at the European style (the ones that can snag) and the cabinet handles (which for the most part are smooth ended - but there is one that is more in the European style) at this link. Comments (27)@backstroae Ours are Berenson Hearthstone. I just went and measured and the larger pulls do stick out a bit more than the smaller ones, but not by a lot. On our one 30" drawer we used a 160mm pull as the 12" looked too big. But seriously... if you can buy one of each pull size and hold them up to each drawer, do so... we would have not bought the right sizes if we had just guessed. Also, to anyone who reads this who may be considering Berenson brushed nickel hardware. It is fantastic and shows no smudges no matter how greasy my hands are... they look perfect still. We used cheaper pulls in the bathrooms and those show every fingerprint (as does Kohler's BN hardware so I guess it sort of matches)....See Morehelp with hardware sizes
Comments (2)IMO I never use 2 pulls on a wid drawer they are never a good idea since when you use them you always have a different pull strenght in your different hand a so anice long pull you use from the center is IMO always best . I like simple stainless pulls from Lee Valley they come in a huge choice of sizes so ypou can do something like this where the pulls ar ein proprtion to your cabinet sizes and I often do some hrizontal and some vertical Use painter stape to figure out the proportions and do not be rushed into this part . IMO 30% 0f the drawer width looks too small...See Moresaboushi07
