When you say the rug in the living area is going away, do you mean the w/w carpet is going to be taken away everywhere we see it in the picture? Is there hardwood under the carpet or what will be there? Leaving about a foot of space between an area rug and the wall is a good look. I prefer big rugs in big spaces, especially under a dining table. Too small, and with a table and chairs on top, it looks odd to me. I have a LR and DR spaced somewhat like yours. I have two oriental rugs that complement each other, but they don't match. The space between the rugs is large enough that each (and the room furniture) defines its own area. But if you had two great rugs that matched, I think that would be fine, too. Any links to show us? How about a floor plan to visualize the floor space better?

Thank you for your comments. Beverly27 - I agree totally that there is no comparison between the two rugs. I was expecting some flaws, but the largest flaw was bigger than the size of a pencil eraser, with just foundation and no pile. I didn’t know if it could cause problems down the road, and couldn’t get it looked at before the return period was up. I’m still shopping and hope to find a rug similar to the first rug. Interesting about the tribes! zorroslw - Glad you like the planter. I like sectionals, but in my room the sectional would be in front of only part of the bow window. It might make things feel out of balance? That’s why I planned to use a sofa and chairs. (The price in the photo of the sofa was not the sale price; the sofa would be a few hundred dollars less). chijim - Thanks for the ideas from the Candice Olson room. millworkman I am redoing the entire house besides the basement. that was renovated few years back. I pretty much knocking down everything on first and second floor and rebuilding. thinkdesignlive the wall itself was not structural but there where post on the ends is a beam needs to pass somewhere in that area. I can now have a post on the wall that covers the side of the fridge and have a small wall stick out on the opposite site I agree the the wall should only go until the edge if the fridge but thought to give a drop more privacy. Kristin S I took the island as a ready made model from sketchup. I will not be doing a 2 tier island and will have storage on the seating side to accommodate the pantry I have removed from first model. I do have another nice pantry we built in the basement under the stairs but of course I rather not have to go up and down all the time. As for the living room, don't pay attention how exactly I poisoned the carpet and sofa... I just downloaded a few items from sketchup library and put it to give an idea. As for tv fireplace. Im planing on a ventless fireplace that are relatively narrow in hight. and want tv on top on an accent wall. I like that look. See attached image from Pinterest

I also, would lower the TV with a long console. Add 2 small swivel chairs facing each other at right angles to the sofa. Add a sofa table 12"D or less, behind the sofa if there is enough space. Cozy up the seating by adding a colorful area rug at the grouping. I like the bookcases and desk wall. I would just add a large artwork or you can group smaller art pieces above the desk. Repeat colors from art or rug to create cohesiveness and tie the separate areas together.
