Will you be repainting your interior so that the wall color is somewhere in the white range? I'm not really able to imagine black windows with the wall color I see now, and have never seen all the wood around the windows painted black. I would proceed rather cautiously with that idea. You might want to look on-line for examples first,

The windows are in, so we are stuck with them. Unfortunately, we didn't know there could be an option for white inside/beige outside. My builder uses Sherwin Williams. I've just gotten home from a trip to their store to look at colors since Relaxed Khaki for a trim seemed way too dark. Now I'm looking at SW White Duck, Muslin, and Natural Choice. They all have high LRVs. They seem to work with the beige windows and with SW Wool Skein on the walls. The next issue I want to avoid is having the trim color too similar to the wall color. Do you think there is enough contrast with these colors? Any choices I should avoid?

The cabinets are BM Chantilly Lace with splendours white tile for backsplash. I do not think I want white walls. I would like some color but do not want gray. Want a neutral wall color with light trim on woodwork. Would appreciate suggestions for wall color and trim. I do not think I want Chantilly Lace trim throughout the house. Something that is not so bright. Can I get a color that can go in the kitchen as well as the rest of the house that is light and still not conflict with cabinets in the kitchen. Kitchen is open to the den but only wood is fireplace mantel and trim around windows which are somewhat covered by window treatment. Trim in the kitchen is around the two doors and at the ceiling. Furnishings are traditional, but want to have colors that would be versatile for future. Especially the trim. Thanks.

I can't stand turning on lights during the day and would rather sit in a semi-dim room than use lamps. I only turn them on if I'm trying to perform an actual task. First things to try: matte white paint and light color furnishings will go a long way. More expensive: skylights and solatubes, like apple_pie mentioned. They are not perfect though, placement and size matters a lot. A badly placed and/or too small skylight can feel like you turned on a dim overhead fixture. But if that part of the roof is relatively sunny most of the day --- especially in the winter--- they're amazing.
