Paint Design Dilemma

Beige windows--Need help with interior trim and wall colors

We are building a new house and selected beige windows to complement the exterior paint colors we had selected. Now we have the dilemma of paint colors inside the house due to the beige windows. We had planned on white trim with light gray walls (we've had light gray walls for 25 years and still love them). The decorator had suggested SW Relaxed Khaki #6159 for the trim color (it does match the beige windows nicely) and SW Wool Skein #6148 for the walls. I would love to get advice as to whether this would work throughout the house. I'm not used to beige interiors and am afraid this may make the house feel too dark. Suggestions? Thank you!

None of them go with Wool Skein.

I wouldn't let the beige windows drive the color palette.

Not for the walls, not for the trim, not for anything interior.

The wall color(s) should be chosen to go with, relate to the contents. Like art, a rug, a big upholstered pieces/window treatments.

If you wanted white trim originally, there is no reason why you can't have white trim.

Alabaster from SW would be a good option.

Why does the trim have to match the windows?

Relaxed Khaki on trim is a commitment - like, serious commitment.

I'd choose 'nice white' for the trim that works with the windows, like Ben Mooore's Super White, and use it consistently throughout the house.

I am having a similar problem now with exterior almond/tan vinyl windows. My home was painted 1/4 way around only and stopped them because the paint looked terrible against the faded vinyl. I have been back to the get new samples of paint to try around the windows, but I still can’t find a color that is compatible. My home was built in 78, and I think the windows are probably 90s. I bought the home in 2015. It is currently a beige color with green trim, very blah. I think I may go white, and the trim color I found matches the vinyl on the windows, called French Beige a Behr Marquee color. Then add shutters in the front, or I may need to change out all windows and then I can paint it whatever color I like.

Carly, Over in the Home Decorating Forum they've had lots of discussions about stained wood windows and doors with white or painted trim and vis versa. I don't see why you can't have beige windows and white trim. If that doesn't do it for you, it is possible to paint vinyl so you could paint the interior white and leave the outside beige. Here are pictures: By the way, I am thinking of having beige or tan windows with white or off white painted trim, so I wanted to get a feel for how they would look, too. I think it looks good! Anne

HELP! Interior Color for a Craftsman House with Wood trims?

This could be a whole color consultation appointment, but some quick suggestions.... First, keep in mind that original Craftsman homes were often quite dark compared to our contemporary aesthetic. Sticking with off-whites works well, and if you want to distinguish different rooms (like you have in your bath/laundry room above), there can still be good flow from room to room. The grey accent wall in the dining area doesn't seem relate to anything else right now, and it doesn't fit with a cohesive plan using off-whites, so I recommend you either use that color elsewhere as well or paint over it. Also, the stringer and stair risers don't appear to relate to other stark white trim anywhere, so I would consider painting over that, as well to avoid your home from becoming too busy visually.

The windows are in, so we are stuck with them. Unfortunately, we didn't know there could be an option for white inside/beige outside. My builder uses Sherwin Williams. I've just gotten home from a trip to their store to look at colors since Relaxed Khaki for a trim seemed way too dark. Now I'm looking at SW White Duck, Muslin, and Natural Choice. They all have high LRVs. They seem to work with the beige windows and with SW Wool Skein on the walls. The next issue I want to avoid is having the trim color too similar to the wall color. Do you think there is enough contrast with these colors? Any choices I should avoid?

Lori, thank you for your help. Wanted to let you know that we've made decisions now. We are going with SW White Duck trim and Relaxed Khaki for the walls. The samples looked good with the various lighting in the new house and will look good with our furniture and kitchen cabinets, plus we are ready to change our color palette to something completely different than our current house.

Love beige windows! White can be stark and it is an upgrade (expensive) to do beige exterior and white interior.
