Me too I haven't gotten any work done this week.

It's pouring right now. The weeds are getting bad, and I'm trying to keep up with them a few minutes at a time inbetween storms. I'm going to bring my Clivias in so they don't drown. They don't like to stay this wet. Everything else seems fine.

My poor tomatoes are splitting, and the basil seems to be hating the non-stop rain. Some things seem ok, but the cucumbers, squash, etc also look so sad.

I just posted a topic on this - i am trying to grow peppers, tomatoes and other herbs but with all this rain, i can't imagine it is healthy for the plants to be in wet soil for so long. how do you guys handle this?

Also - what kind of basil are you growing? I can never get basil to grow without it getting fungus and dying right away.

I think mine is just the normal large-leaf basil. Quite a bit of it is turning brown right now in the rain. I did plant it in my tomato row with a lot of marigolds, which may be what's keeping it sort-of alive.

Treimink, try different seed. I've gotten seed from the more highly respected seed companies that seemed pre-infected with basil downy mildew but the cheap seeds from the big box stores have been fine for me. I always grow Genovese.

It rained all last summer here in Hernando county Fl. I hope that it don't rain all summer again .

I finally got out of the house for more than 10 minutes today. Walked to the bank and then to Dollar General for some essentials I'd been doing without for a few days now. It wasn't hot, but the humidity was so high, I was huffing and puffing and soaking wet by the time I got home. It's pouring right now, and I forgot to bring the clivias in, but they're coming in tomorrow for sure.

On the upside, the crowder peas I planted out in between the Jerusalem artichokes are coming up, along with something that might be okra. I sometimes just toss old seeds out into the garden to see what will happen, and these really do look like okra seedlings.

And of course, the rain lilies are going crazy. I need to post a pick of my clump with 11 flowers on it.

Well the rain has giving my garden a boost and my lawn was looking pretty bad but all this rain has started the lawn to grow back again .

I went outside today when the rain stopped for awhile and threw down some lawn seeds .

Hopefully it will help to thicken up the lawn . Now I hope it keeps raining for a few days so they can germinate. My luck the rain will stop since I have been complaining about the rain .

treimink: I frequently use basil and have no patience for seeds. My local Publix and my produce market both have healthy potted herbs so I buy those and transplant them into larger pots with good potting soil that allows for proper drainage. The constant rain I've been getting here is making my current crop very happy! For the last two years I've had to deal with the mildew on and off, and then I just buy a new plant.

It seems to me that a weather system appears every year that brings a couple of weeks of ongoing cloudy rainy weather just before the normal summer pattern sets in. I was waiting for it actually. I always wait for it to sprinkle seeds around.

judyk_2008: regarding "It normally rains all summer in Florida," I live on the Treasure Coast and over the past years the daily afternoon rain storms of summer and early fall have slowly been disappearing. 35 years ago when I first got here, afternoon rain storms were like clockwork. They'd come and go quickly, leaving steaming roads in their wake. As the years have passed the storms gradually have been fewer and fewer, and in recent years I've had to water my herbs and tomato plants literally every day. I'm told this is due to development.

The rain patterns have been changing and it is because of development if things keep going Florida will be desert or under water I wonder which will happen first

I am looking to move back north to the Pocono's PA. I just can't stand the heat anymore . Hopefully I find a house in PA before I find one in FL because I'm looking to downsize, I am 70 and don't need a big house and pool that it's hard to take care of ...I will be where ever God leads me .

I was over this rain by the end of last week. Now, I am just about ready to lose it!

Glenn - We are building a house about half a mile from the bay. I told my husband I expect it to be waterfront property in a few years.

I was beyond sick of having to hand water. I haven't had to water a thing in a week and a half. And I'm loving it.

Just emptied out the rain guage....again. We've gotten 14.5 inches since it started on the 13th. Up until that point, we'd only had 3.5 inches all year.

I'm not complaining though and my plants certainly aren't either. Ask me after another week of this if I still feel the same. Lol

The butterflies seem to relish any sun that we get between the torrential downpours.

I don't know how much rain we have gotten, but our dock has less than a foot before it's underwater. Just a few years ago, our area was in a drought and the lake was dry 30 ft past the end of our dock which is 150' long. The lake fluctuates with the water table. So at least that shows we are in a better water situation. But my veggie garden has turned into mush and mildew. On the up side, my orchids in my shade house are growing as fast as the weeds in my flower beds.

So far in my backyard I've had almost 12" of rain in the last 10 days...today's rain chance is the lowest since Sunday 13th, it's rain every single day till yesterday. I saw there "might" be a tropical storm brewing in the Gulf so the chance of rain goes back up the end of this week through the Memorial weekend. So far it hasn't been bad here, it's been averaging about an inch of rain or so, so no flooding as of yet...my mangoes are going to be very bland this year due to the excessive rain :o(

Yes, I don't mind if the dry season is dry, which is where we're supposed to be now. But we had rain all winter till a couple of weeks ago and after a week of heavy rain with no time to dry out, the ground is totally saturated here already. We've had flooding inland in spots where it never floods. So if we continue to have so much rain and then get a wet storm, we'll be in trouble in this area.

I live on Hutchinson Island and I'd say they've been shifting. We've had much, much more rain out here the past few years than used to be normal.

ETA And I don't get the people who say lots of rain = no hurricane. It's rained like heck the past two years and Matthew, Irma.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are climatic weather patterns that switch every 50- 100 years or so
