Comments (2)"I have spoken with Lutron - they suggest using a 5 Amp variable speed switch. However, I've heard these cause a humming noise" Heard from who? If you buy a fan rated switch of the correct amp rating you should have less problems. As stated above they should last longer and be more reliable. I cannot see spending money on a device you know from the start to be under sized. If you do, when they fail later, it will cost more in the long run....See Morewiring switched light hot to ceiling fan remote box
Comments (1)That is a good idea but I am not sure I would try it. At the very least I would try a tech support # if there is one and run it by them first. If you are not able to reach any one then I would just hook up the remote box with one of the switched power wires and use the remote. If memory serves correctly I believe it comes with a little bracket to hang the remote on the wall next to the switch. I have also in the past bypassed one of the switches so that the remote always has power to it. I would think if you try this w/o an answer from tech support, the worst that would happen is you would burn up the remote box but I still wouldn't take that chance. BTW, my experience w/ those remotes specifically has been a high rate of failure. Especially if the power to the box is on and you go through a power outage or brownout, it seemed to kill it every time. The ones that were installed but not powered when one of those situations occurred were not harmed at all. Good luck....See MoreNeed help with Ceiling Fan turning on 10 minutes after switch flipped.
Comments (17)I would replace the capacitor if I was you, continuing to do that to your fan can burn out the motor eventually. Note: I cannot edit what I posted a couple posts above (pre houzz merge), what I said about the capacitor was wrong. The capacitor charges constantly when supplied power, it just discharges when the fan is turned on, giving the boost needed to make the fan move from stand still. After that, the fan motor keeps the fan moving. It wouldnt hurt to give it a minute to charge before using after replacing with new. In reality it probably only takes like 10 to 15 seconds. That is what I was going for with that comment. Probably the time walking from the panel to the switch is long enough....See Morewiring ceiling fan w/light to 2 light switches using two 2 cond. wires
Comments (2)I'm assuming both switches are on the same circuit and in the same box? Then at the ceiling box, combine the 2 white wires together with the white from the ceiling fan/light and connect one black to the fan and one black to the light. Connect all ground wires....See More- 6 years ago
