Help Me Choose Laminate Flooring

Looking to choose between these two laminate flooring options for my home. Which one you think best fits my style of home. My furniture and style is MCM. Flooring will cover entry way, familyroom, dining, and kitchen.

No laminate. By the time you find a good laminate, you could have bought real wood. In a MCM home, parquet is the choice for a wood floor. Or terrazzo tile.

Sorry I do not agree tha parquet is the flooring of choice. Usually they had light colored wood, concrete or linoleum. I have laminate in my home because I have bug dogs and they would have long ago ruined a wood floor. I don’t however have woood look laminate but a floor that looks like slate and I love it .

Which grain and color looks best with my kithen? My cabinets are oak, the longer plank is a lighter oak and the short plank is a cherry grain. Would love to see some pics if anyone has this mannington revolutions plank line or any comments on the product.

Bumping... We visited a floor store this weekend and brought home many samples of laminate and vinyl floor planks, all wood-look. I think we are leaning towards one of the higher end laminate wood-looks and using it throughout the foyer, DR, and whole kitchen. My new questions are: Does high-end laminate scratch or scuff under barstools or dining table chairs? How does high end laminate hold up under water? The salesman we talked to was very confident that the choices we took home would be fine in areas where there could be water from time to time. What sort of wood tone should I look for that will look nice with the maple cabinets in the kitchen, and the dark cherry dining set in the DR? Does anyone think I would be better off design-wise with tile-looking laminate in the kitchen, then wood-looking laminate in the foyer/DR?? (don't want real tile, too hard and too cold for my tastes) Also, does anyone know anything about vinyl planking? The sample we looked at had a lot of nice texture and was realistic looking. Might be a nice option since it will be in the kitchen and foyer, both watery places from time to time. It is a floating floor that glues at the seams on tabs that interlock. Simulating wood with a photographic applique layer under a clear protective layer, laminate is just a composite. I would not consider spending money on a laminate floor at this point. It isn’t a better solution than going with the ivory carpet for a few years. Laminate is $, but it's noisy and doesn’t like water. "Water can cause laminate flooring to swell if it gets between the seams. Being made of pressed board, laminate can easily chip--especially the critical tongue and groove sections.” Where I would spend extra money is on the padding under the rug. That will go a long way to help keep the rug clean. It isn’t the rug fibre which stains, it is whatever liquid has soaked into the pad that keeps coming back to haunt you. Spend a few cents extra and ask for Mohawk Smart Step. it has a coating which keeps any liquid from soaking into the pad. If it needs to be seamed, have them duck-tape the seams. I have a light wool wall to wall carpet. Should something spill, I grab a dry cloth or paper towel or newspaper and step on it until all the liquid is out of the rug. Then, use a combo of water and ammonia, and just dab at it. Actual dirt or mud, just let it dry and then vacuum.

This home doesn't say modern and I wouldn't push you to force that on the home. This house says comfort, I would go for warm natural wood tones on your flooring. MCM has two options: a super-light floor like the Golden Butterscotch or a much darker presentation like Walnut (3 steps darker than the Golden Oak). Cork was used in MCM homes and it is MUCH lighter. It is more like the Butterscotch than the oak.

I prefer a lighter floor because I prefer the look of Scandinavian Modern more than MCM. You are showing some darker corners in the home, which tells me the Butterscotch can be used to lighten the whole space.

Please do NOT use laminate in a kitchen. It has issues with spills and steam from dishwashers.

We have Wilsonart laminate in our laundry room, kitchen and dining room....have had it for about 15 years....looks good yet. I believe the warranty for Wilsonart laminate is 10 years. Just so you know, if you spill water on it and wipe it up right away it is fine. The problem comes if you leave water on it over night like in watering plants, ice cube melting on the floor, etc. it will bubble up at the seams. Mine is golden oak and really like it.
