Good things still happening with my roses
I’m sure I sound like a broken record, and even though this spring has been a peculiar beginning for my roses. There are so many good things happening. I think this must be the year for new basal breaks, as several of my roses have them. I know the past two seasons my roses haven’t had much new healthy growth. Even my Twilight Zone has three, plus other new growth, that really excites me! And Easy Does It looks amazing, I knew I liked it, looks like it’s going to have a spring flush that will have lots of blooms. And my newly planted bare roots, whether in pots are in the ground are doing great. With the exception of the three I received in February (which are doing good) none of them seemed to go through that dormancy period, when I keep my fingers crossed and look every day to see if there are any signs of life! It’s a relief not to worry about that! Whether on Multiflora or Dr, Huey, they look great!

Comments (6)Irises vary in toughness . There is a woman in Arizona that sells xeric irises but the iris that I brought down from PA. from my grand mom's place just vaporized on contact with my soil, so Go figure and that was in the richer zone". I add the bonemeal because my soil is so anemic. I have grown them without bonemeal.The old cemetery white irises are a very tough thing indeed. They were originally from North Africa and came over with the slave trade and used in Black cemeteries before they crossed "the color line" and every one in the south ended up with them and they became the passalong standard entryway iris. I think you got some in that bag of bulbs I gave you..This is the info that I was given over the internet. Comments (22)When I woke up this morning, I certainly would not have guessed today's events. They ended up doing a cath on DH and are now saying he needs by-pass surgery. So, he's being transported from our local hospital in NH to Mass General in Boston. We're still waiting to hear when he will be going. I'm back home tying up details and will most likely drive down tomorrow. DH has been to MGH before and they are a world class hospital, so I'm confident things will go well. Comments (37)pbrisjar, I forwarded your post to DH...I'm sorry you all experienced that and it does corroborate what happened to us. I thought that was only for "other" companies, not USAA. I will say that dealing with the car repairs (the tree fell on our car too--it was BIG) was a breeze, wonderful, no problem at all. Also through USAA. We had thought maybe it's just that one adjuster, or maybe just the house repairs part...we thought about it and there's got to be massive $$$ to be made ripping people off in their moment of crisis. Just so no one misunderstands, I'm talking flat out lies in quotes about the costs of very specific researchable materials, and inflated labor rates like I've never seen. It's got to be a scam. All accompanied by "I'm so sorry this happened to you -- we specialize in making it right" garbage....See Morenot the same level of hype but still a good thing

Lily, it is a very exciting time isn’t it? Please post pictures of your Lavender Lassie. I planted one of those this year too,. Hybrid Musks are supposed to do good in this area, not sure why I haven’t been trying to grow them sooner, I also planted Felicia, another HM.
The weather did a number on my roses too. But with the exception of about 4 of my fortuniana roses I think they’ve come out of it healthier than they were. Just a delay in blooming, which only makes me anxious, but doesn’t hurt my roses!
Kristine, I'm glad your Easy Does It bushes are doing so good. I see more of this variety in my future, it's such a good rose. I planted another Poseidon this year, because the one I have is so vigorous, there are others I need duplicates of too.
I took this picture last evening, before it started raining. The rose is Mme Ernest Calvat, I believe it will be my first bush to be in full bloom, hopefully just days away!

5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoThank you Lisa, I love Bourbon roses too, especially Souvenir de la Malmaison, anyway it’s my favorite of the ones I have.. Thank you lavender, hope you like your EP, it is a beautiful rose. I got another one too, mine didn’t make it through our crazy winter, but I should have protected it better, my fault. You and Lily live in warmer zones, I wouldn’t think you’d have any problems with it overwintering. Thanks again Darren.
My Roses Unlimited order came today and a few had blooms. The roses look fantastic.

It arrived from RU with 3 big fat buds on it. So I can’t take any credit.
I’m super duper pleased with our RU order. Even more so because the plants are preforming so even well after being in an accident in their UPS truck. The box was really beat up with tears/holes knocked in one side, the pots were squashed, and a lot of dirt was knocked out of all of them. I can attest to RUs packaging being top notch for the plants to have faired as well as they did!
I repotted them into four gallons as soon as they arrived. A little over a week later we had several pretty blooms.

We just adopted this little cutie and named her “Lady Emma”. :-)
