Curtain question..
Comments (11)Tuesday - Yeah, that's what I thought. I'll see what JCP's customer service people say. Nanny - Originally I was going to use the plaid fabric for the sheets and attempt to make them myself with a relative on standby. :) I changed my mind and made a new sew crib skirt out of it and figured I'd buy stock sheets. I think the elastic is what scares me about it, ha. If you wouldn't mind sending me some instructions, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! I didn't even think about using full size sheets! Totally - Thanks for the feedback. The other curtains I'll end up going with if these don't work are the Linden Street ones but they're a cotton twill fabric and lined. I really hope whatever curtains I order are a deeper blue. There really doesn't seem to be much variety out there - at least not in my budget. As far as crib sheets, I can't picture any other color or pattern (maybe if the plaid were larger in scale) with the skirt. I don't want to use red since it's the main color in the plaid. There's a lot of tan going on in the room already (tan fabric on chair, BM Manchester Tan walls). White is too stark. ... And as far as curtains, I want the room to grow with the baby so I thought navy seemed like a safe color. Hmm......See MoreCurtain rod for tab top curtains? (photo)
Comments (6)Interesting thread I have had this type curtain up in my kitchen for 5 years with a skinny rod because I cann,t seem to commit to how high or what kind of rod works for them. Mine are on a french door as well. Looking at yours I had a ah ha moment that was 5 years in the making. It needs to be high enought for the tabs to be above the window frame and not puddle. Anyone have anythoughts on the best rods for this kind of curtain?...See MoreFirst sewing project-questions about lining curtains
Comments (6)Annie, Thanks for your reply. I wasn't very clear in my description - the curtains won't actually have tiebacks at all; the panels will be inside mounted by using these little vintage flower pins to tack the upper two corners of each panel to the inside of the window frame. The flower pins are sort of like little decorative tacks, and were originally used to pin fabric tie-backs to the wall, but I'm using them in a totally different way. It's hard to explain w/o a photo, but because of the way my old house's double-hung bay windows are constructed, there is no other way I can see to do an inside mounted curtain, and I don't want to do an outside mount and cover the window trim. It's a vintage 50's kitchen, and the fabric is bright 50's floral, so it'll be almost like just tacking up a vintage tea towel (which is what I have in one window right now, so I can tell that it works and can see how it will look). I hope this description makes more sense. I don't really need to darken the room, but the lining will need to be opaque enough that you don't see the floral pattern from the street (some lining I saw was too sheer), and it needs to cut down on the sun enough that we can eat at the kitchen table w/o being blinded. :) Thanks for your reply; it sounds like I can just find a good-quality lining and go with that; no need for multiple fabrics. Thanks again; I'll definitely practice first and will post pics when I'm done. Jenn...See Moredumb question about curtain rod leveling
Comments (7)Thanks all. Think I'll go ahead and use the ceiling since the top edge of the curtain header will be closer to the ceiling than anything else and I don't think I'm smart 'nuff to get them all to look right working off varying window heights (each room has its windows at two different heights - not counting the inch or so off here and there - and let's not talk about PO's rather cattywampus installation of the replacement windows themselves). The tape is a pretty good suggestion. Since we're going into thick old plaster-and-lath walls, we'd better get the darn things put in the right place first time round! Basically I'll be doing the measuring and marking and DH will do the actual installation. We have a picture rail too but it is up at crown molding height, lowered about 1/2" from the ceiling which is just enough to slip in the picture hook. Odd. Took us a bit to figure out why there was that weird gap between the "crown molding" and the ceiling!...See Morewoodteam5
