Desperately need counter stool help!
Comments (47)Oh goodness another dilemma to look forward to! :>) Honestly the only one I like is the wood stool with the rush top. Pretty, classic, unobtrusive, can push it all the way in, and don't have to worry about the seat backs lining up, if that's something that would bother you. Love the idea of a swivel. Less wear and tear on the floors and without a back there's even more of a chance people won't have to move the stool much to get on. But does the color match your island? I also like that the rung for your feet goes all the way around so you have some options of how you sit and where you put your feet rather than on the little bird perch on some of the others. That would be a no go for me. Normally I assume I want a back, but when I think about it, I typically don't sit back anyway. As long as I can lean on the counter when socializing and can reach the rung or floor comfortably I'm usually good. I think most of the others are too modern and/or look like beauty parlor chairs, especially with arms. The wicker tulips very modern or islandy and they do not look comfortable, especially if you don't have the right size butt! The red fabric one someone posted looks nice, but does the base with tapered out legs take up more room? I think you should just wait until you get your backsplash and window treatments up. Even though you know what they are they can still change the look of the space, but overall I think most of the options you've been pulling are too modern. The stools don't need to make a statement in such a beautiful kitchen....See MoreIsland - raised back for bar stools behind or one open countertop
Comments (6)thank you all for your comments. trixieinthegarden, i hadn't thought about the discomfort associated with the bar stools for older people, that is a good point but I do like the idea of the additional outlets along the riser. I'll have to speak to my KD about that and see if he can include outlets elsewhere if I want to go with a one height countertop. datura, I hadn't given that a thought but I think I'd prefer either the one height or the raised lunch counter, personally. Comments (4)I had backs, then had to leave those chairs at the old house/new kitchen for staging. I used backless for the new house because they were inexpensive, and I had no idea how long it would take to sell the old house! For me, there was no comparison (backs are better), and I didn't think I ever sat back. All other family members and friends agreed. However, I am still not sure that I use the back, and it is possible that the back comes with a more comfortable seat, or that I position myself differently with it. My friend has backless stools, and I don't find them any more comfortable than my own, though they are two different types. (But the company is most excellent there, so I don't notice until I've eaten too much of her wonderful food.) So the house sold and we were all happier to have the backed chairs back. I still don't think I know the answer though (since I haven't tried out a bunch of backless), and like how much better the access to the island is with no backs....See MoreNeed some kind of direction on Counter Stools please
Comments (26)Check out this company https://www.amisco.com/en_us/. I purchased swivel stools and selected the seat fabric and frame color. The product is well made. Below is a picture of the stool with a back and one without back which is useful when I working at the island. Fabric is a leather looking vinyl that is easy to keep clean. I like the swivel for easy entry and exit of the stool. I also prefer the lower back so when standing at the island I don’t have to remove the stools. Good luck in your search....See MoreWalnutCreek Zone 7b/8a
