Top Rated Front Load Washers & Dryers
Comments (12)We bought a Frigidaire Affinity 6000 set in mid December for $999 for the pair (great deal I think, but even if not on sale the washer runs around $699 and the dryer around $599). We've only had them a couple of weeks, but so far I am loving this one. My laundry room is only a doorway away from the kitchen, and the washer is usually so quiet that I can be standing 6 feet away and barely hear it. At first, I would peek around the doorway because I thought it had quit running. Anyway, so far, so good, and I would recommend this pair to anyone I know. Please note however, that the washer needs to be perfectly level to be that quiet (but this is probably true for all front loaders)....See MoreConsumer Reports Feb '08 Washer Ratings
Comments (16)I recently bought the Maytag Bravos MTW6700TQ (instead of the 6600 model) washer because the 6700 model is said to be even better, eliminating a problem which the 6600 model had with the impeller. So far, I'm extremely happy with mine. washer_man, the only reason I can think of that GE Harmony does not rate as high as Maytag Bravo and Whirlpool Cabrio (and Sears Kenmore Oasis) is that those three are all basically the same washer, all manufactured by Whirlpool with minor differences in features. I can only tell of my experience: my Maytag is much gentler on my laundry than was my old Sears Kenmore traditional TL, which I dearly loved, for it had served me faithfully for almost 15 years. I averaged 10 loads a week during that time. However, it was aging, the dual agitator was no longer functioning as it should, I wanted to be able to wash huge loads (including king-size comforters) because I have a large family - meaning I could wash far fewer loads each week - and because I was looking for ways to save on electricity bills and conserve water, I chose to replace Old Faithful with the Maytag Bravo HE top-loader. My ds and dil purchased a Sears Kenmore Oasis washer not long ago, which is very similar to my Maytag Bravo, and she has raved about it. She is hard to please, she has to wash very dirty laundry (ds works an outdoor job and they have toddlers); they also have a large family, so her experience definitely influenced me. They found their washer at a local Sears outlet/scratch-n-dent store - it has a tiny dent at the bottom - so they saved $$$ on it. We made quite an investment in our new washer, but we also are getting big rebates from Home Depot and Maytag, which definitely sweeten the deal....See MoreLG 2688 vs. LG 2487 Washer
Comments (27)The better thing about going to purchase the LG washer/dryer at Best Buy rather than Home Depot is the warranty. At Best Buy, I purchased the LG 2487 and the 7177 dryer and a warranty for 5 total years covering everything was $200. Try getting that at Home Depot! Also, Best Buy has their own service team wheras Home Depot has to use an outside source which to me means more people to have to go through if there is something major that has to be replaced. My experience with Best Buy warranty's in past has been exceptional. And, even though they aren't supposed to honor it, I bough my machines on sale and used the 12% off coupon (which is supposed to be off regular selling price and on one item only per purchase) on the set and including the stands for both. Got a tremendous deal and nobody could have beat the deal we got (and warranty was a great piece of mind from Best Buy). I have had problems with warranty work from Expo (a Home Depot company in the past). Anyway, machines are great and we have had them since last November (2006) without a problem. Just make sure when your wash is done, you leave the washing machine door open to dry out or you may have the same problems the Maytag Neptune we replaced had with mold. The drainage on the LG machine is great and so far, no problems....See Morerating top load washer
