Front load washer and dryer on opposite sides of connections
Comments (2)None of the reversible door washers seem even nearly as highly rated as the the best models of the non-reversible models such as Kenmore 41572. I think the Electrolux washers have a nice looking design, but I'm wary of their quality and reliablity. The Kenmore Elite with reversible door (I assume rebranded Electrololux) may not be any better. The Kenmore Elite 41572 is small enough to fit even with the dryer extension tubes behind it if I just put it on the left despite the dryer exhaust being behind it. So, that might be better choice if I can't find a very quiet and reliable full sized unit with reversible doors. There is supposed to be a reversible door LG washer, but it seems well hidden on the LG site. The link has comments referring to some LG model that has reversible doors, but I can't find the model number anywhere. Here is a link that might be useful: http://reviews.bestbuy.com/answers/3545/product/9757541/lg-4-2-cu-ft-14-cycle-ultra-capacity-washer-white-questions-answers/questions.htm...See MoreFront vs Top loading- washer and dryer
Comments (8)Guess I'm in the minority. I had a Maytag TL that was about 10 years old and did a good job. When we sold our house, the washer was part of the deal. I replaced it with an LG fl w/d for two reasons: I can do larger loads and it uses far less water (we're on septic now). I L-O-V-E my washer (a dryer is a dryer is a dryer, as far as I'm concerned). I suppose there was a bit of a learning curve (I have to be better organized prior to starting laundry, although I do have the ability to pause my washer and add additional items), but not too bad. For us, our clothes get very, very clean (switching to Charlie's Soap also helped). Stains and marks that had been on older items through many previous washings actually came out in my LG. Yes, the wash takes much longer. I did a load earlier today on the "Sanitize" setting (one of the longer settings) and it took 1 hour 45 minutes. If I use Perm Press, it's about 54 minutes. However, it spins SO much out of the items that drying takes a fraction of the time....which I like, since it doesn't make the house as hot. There is some additional vibration, but my washer has a vibration control mode that makes a big difference. We have a main floor laundry room (it's in a closet in the haul) and there are many times I can't even hear it running! I've had no problems with odors. I do wipe the seal off, but it's a fast and easy process. Occasionally I run some vinegar in the bleach compartment, but that's primarily for towels and items that tend to sit on my son's floor for an extended amount of time, lol. Powdered detergent will work better (and contribute less to odor issues) and don't use liquid softener....See MoreFront load vs. top load washers
Comments (33)Speaking of how much I like the front loader - one of the things I really like about it is that I can wash rugs in it - not the flimsy ones but the ones with stiff backing. They say professional rug cleaning but some of the ones I have are so inexpensive it's not worth the price of professional cleaning. So I tried washing one in the FL once - figured if it fell apart I'd throw it away. It turned out great. So today I washed two rugs I've had in my kitchen for a long time. They're brown oriental type rugs so they hide dirt but they were grungy so I thought I'd wash them. A really weird thing happened. These rugs were (I thought) exactly the same. At least they looked exactly the same before I washed them. One came out beautifully - looks like new. The other one looks entirely different - the colors and pattern are kind of muddy and muted - kind of yucky looking. It almost seems like one was synthetic and one might have been wool - the one that doesn't look very good. So I put the good looking one back in the kitchen and the yucky looking one is in my laundry room. It doesn't look so bad by itself but looks terrible next to the good one. Anyway, FL works great for washing the rugs but you take your chances on whether the rugs are really washable or not. By the way, my normal cycle is 45 mins but there are cycles as short as 30 mins. Drying is fast since the washer spins things so dry....See MoreFront load washer/dryer, would you buy again?
Comments (78)I'm only average height 5.5 and a 1/2..but I can easily reach to the bottom of my TL'er maybe because its an older one, and its on the floor, but that being said my body still gets mashed , almost like I'm getting a mamogram with every load I do..lol...but bending to remove each item from the dryer is worse, I like to fold each piece as I take it from the dryer, warm to pervent wrinkles and it kills my back..than because my laundry room is also a mud room someone always has shoes in front of the machines that I either have to bend over to pick up or trip on them. Sometimes it seems like a constant battle just to survive the mashing and bending/ twisting positions involved in the laundry room. You'd think I was performing circus stunts. * Step up folks, watch the pink lady perform amazing stunts with her boobs and washing machine, adults only*...See Moredanandcarol
