Long narrow front entrance, is it still a thing?

I have a long and narrow house and thinking of putting all three bedrooms in the front, but it'll create a long hallway leading to the rare where it'll be a large square open living space. Nowadays, it seems that you want to enter into an open space, so I am afraid this design is no longer desirable and probably has many disadvantages that I am not aware of.

The reason I am considering to have the whole living space (living, dining, kitchen) in the rare of the house is that most of the sun light is from the rare. Also I would put huge glass door panels to open up to the deck. I feel that a square space is more comfortable and appears roomier than long and narrow. But is it worth sacrificing a "grand entrance"?
