Pro range with non-venting range hood
Comments (4)You can always turn down the heat you use. Assuming you are considering the eventual buyer of your place, the average schmoe will be impressed with a pro-style range and won't think twice about exhaust. Do you have "any" access to external venting? Reason I ask is that a friend who bought a unit in the JPM building across from the NYSE was given a strange setup where a chimney style hood vented into the "capture area" above the entire galley kitchen which then vented into the building's standard exhaust system. Yes, it's questionable, no, I have not experienced the practicality of it (do successful Wall St bachelors really cook?) but apparently it looked attractive to (or, more likely, was overlooked by) a buyer of a $2MM apt....See Moreneed a 60" vent hood for range AND blower for a commercial hood.
Comments (8)Proline are rock bottom priced Chinese made hoods that use 430 SS instead of the much more common and more expensive 304 SS. 430 SS uses less nickel therefore is a little darker and more prone to rust. You need a 60-66" hood with at least 1200 cfm. You will not find another company that sells cheaper. Maybe a new Chinese company selling something equivalent. In 2010-11 about 10 people on GW purchased Proline Hoods. Five were satisfied including one that was very satisfied and posted on every thread that mentioned Proline extolling the virtues of the hood. About three were unsatisfied with the lights. Either they were too dim or would not turn off. One got a free circuit board but got the run around about getting reimbursed for labor. Two had major problems. Not getting the right parts and another(if I remember correctly) too many holes drilled into the hood and duct cover. One complained to the better business bureau and the BBB closed the case with an unsatisfied rating saying the company never answered. This person would also post in any thread that mentioned Proline. The other just grew frustrated and posted so again and again. Eventually, people on here stopped buying Proline. But if you want something of better quality and reputation with the correct size and cfm you will have to spend significantly more. Do you want two remote blowers or just one for the outdoor hood? Fantech budget but kinda noisy remote blower. Probably not a good idea if you have neighbors close to your property line. Abbaka considered the best remote blowers. You have to maker sure blower is compatible with hood. If it is single speed I don't think they make those anymore. 3 Speed or Variable speed....See MoreVent Hood Size Over Induction Range vs. Gas Range
Comments (7)It's a universal recommendation that the hood be at least 6" wider than the surface it covers. And as deep as you can manage. It has nothing to do with the fuel used to heat the food. It has to do with the fact that smoke, steam, smells, and aerosolized grease particles rise upwards and outwards. That's physics. A smaller hood can't capture all of those yucks. Stronger fans can't compensate for a lack of capture area either. It's more important to have a good capture area than a strong fan....See MoreVent hood, Broan, Vent a Hood, Zephyr, or Kobe
Comments (33)Mine is from builder. It is one of Thermolec air heaters ( http://www.thermolec.com/en/productView.aspx?type=product&id=77) plus a separate current triggered flapper. The heater tries to heat the air to 15 C (PWM), activated by the air flow. It is a passive one and connects to the air return of the furnace via a 10 inch duct. It is not as sophisticated and highly performed as Kas's....See MoreRoost & Row
