Does the black center mean the Yaupon holly tree trunk is doomed?

We recently noticed that our 30 year Yaupon holly tree was dripping sap from one of its three trunks. We cut below the leak which left one sturdy limb. However, in the center the wood is dark ...

...

The dark hole above it would seem to be one of the sources of the infection although the dripping sap was was also coming from higher in the tree as well ...

...

Not being familiar with what the center of the trunk on a healthy Yaupon holly tree looks like I'm wondering if the dark center indicates that the infection has infiltrated on down and the trunk is doomed?

The tree has three trunks so the lose of one would not mean the death of the tree, which is a favorite nesting spot for mocking birds as well supplying berries for their winter consumption...

...

The trunk on the left is the one from which the leaking limb was cut.

I would appreciate any knowledge, experience, and opinions you all might have. Thank you.
