My best advice is buy books on plants you grow (bermuda in this case) and/or gardening and landscaping in general. Reason being that no SILVER BULLET exists for any problem. For instance Dollar Woth thrives in wet soil so reducing irrigation and/or improving drainage is necessary along with other measures. But hey, you came here looking for easy answers so here are some. Diesel fuel will kill both,so will boiling water. Providing you have time to read labels then follow directions , Atrazine , Dicamba and 2-4-D are effective on both. I use 2-4-D in combination with one of the others when both weeds you named are present. I wish I could give you in 25 words or less what took me years to learn. If I could I'm pretty sure Texas A&M would pay me big bucks to teach ag students in one day what they traditionally have to spend months on. Good luck.

I have Bermuda grass in Texas. When I first bought my house I used Weed'n Feed once a month for a few months, then pre emergent in the Fall once a month for 3 months and again in the Spring. After about 2-3 years the mess of returning weeds were gone and I just used more pre emergent twice in the spring and twice in the fall plus high nitrogen fertilizer.

This spring I have an infestation in a flowerbed of bermuda grass around my daylilies. Guess I could just try to dig it out but hoping to find an easier way. Had thought of putting plastic pots over the daylilies and spraying with Eraser or Roundup [carefully!]. Would 2-4-D be better? Or try Weed N Feed then a preemergent? Thought of just carefully digging the daylilies out after they blom and planting them elsewhere while I work on this bed.........Would appreciate any suggestions and thanks!

Yes St Augustine is sensitive to more herbicides than Bermuda is. It's 100% about ACTIVE INGREDIENT and nothing about brand name when it come's to herbicides and pesticides. As a gardener you should read the label on everything you use, especially ACTIVE INGREDIENT. On every bag of fertilizer,be it weed and feed or straight fertilizer there will also be 3 numbers prominently displayed. Do you know what 10-20-5 means ? If not,shame on you. Those #s are on all fertilizer containers and mean % of Nitrogen(N) Phosphorus(P) Potassium(K). Burn those names and sequence they are always listed into memory. When looking at 3 different bags of fertilizer a quick calculation will tell you how much you are paying per pound for nutrients.

Read the label,it will answer all your questions including which turfs product is suitable for and warnings about where not to use. Newbies and novices are FAR better off buying at nurseries than big box because salespeople can answer questions and give advice.
