Should I stick to rod pocket curtains or go with valances instead?
Comments (16)I think that the sage panels will look great. I had the black checked ones in my living room years ago. I hung them with the tailored valance and instantly wished that I had hung the panels only. I like a traditional look, but the valances made my home look more old-fashioned/country cottage than I wanted. I think you've made a great decision to try only panels first. If already mentioned, forgive me, but I recommend that you use a long curtain rod and extend it beyond the windows. Hang the panels against the wall to leave as much window space open as possible. I'm all for natural sunlight! If you need privacy in the evenings, then sheer panels underneath the panels could be used....See MoreHow High Should we Hang Curtain Rods on an 8 ft Ceiling
Comments (3)Curtains generally look best if they are hung high and wide. Stock sizes of curtains are usually 84" or 95" long. Measure up from the floor to figure out where 84 will land in relation to your window. If 84 is too short, you'll have to use 95. 95 might be a little cramped by the ceiling but they will look better than panels that are too short. If you are crafty, you could hem the 95s or add some fabric to the 84s. Make sure your curtains appear wide enough to cover the windows even if you don't plan on closing them. You don't want them to look too skimpy. Here is a good graphic about curtains. I like all the advice except the pooling suggestion....See MoreWhat size curtain rod should I use?
Comments (4)What type of rod is it--iron, wood? How are you hanging the curtains--on a rod pocket, rings, clips? What type of heading is on the panels? What style of room is it? For a window that wide, you will need several supports. Please post some photos....See MoreShould I hang my curtain rod close to ceiling?
Comments (8)@Jan Moyer We are building a guest house with 10’ ceilings and i am planning to install outside mount woven shades and sheers as in your mockup photo. I have 2 more days to do any additional blocking for shades and curtain rods. see photo i planned to hang rods about 9” from ceiling in case we later add crown moulding Question 1: is this height ok? 2. Is this enough blocking? or need more? 3. For nearby kitchen and mudroom windows, should they also be outside mounted to provide the most light ? or since they wont have sheers, should they be inside mounted? thanks!...See MoreCor
