Changing Pocket Rod Curtains into Grommets-HELP
Comments (6)You have a couple of choices. If you want to convert to grommets, you could look into the kit, though I have never done this, and suspect it might be a bit pricey. You CAN buy a header stiffener in the drapery section of Joann's or a similar store, and I would think you would definately want to use it. A couple of other options: You could buy clip on rings. There is a small clip on the bottom of the ring, which clips to the top of the panel. Then the ring goes over the rod. Probably want to clip a ring every 4 inches or so along the top of each panel. If you want to hang them on rings, but don't want the look of the clips, here is an easy solution. Go to Joann's or some place similar and buy rings which have little metal eyelet-screws at the bottom of them. Unscrew each little eyelet-screw from the ring, and you will stitch it onto the back of the drapery, by hand, probably every four inches or so. You will stitch around the eyelet part. The stem end will be sticking straight up. Where the stem meets the eyelet -that part should be right a the top border of the panel. When you have stitched them all on, simply screw the rings on to all the eyelets and then hang the rings from the rod....See MoreWant to create my own low cost rod over window to hang valance
Comments (6)IF your window is not to wide.. check out a piece of PVC pipe and you can either paint it the color you want and add a covered styroform ball at the end for the finial or just use a curved piece of PVC joint piece. they are smooth and the tabs would flow over it nicely.. you could spray paint it black, gold , white, any color that would go with your bathroom or valance.. I have seen folks use these with bracket hung up side of window and slip pvc piece over it.. or you can go to Big Lots and get a very inexpensive rod.. but sure would not be as much fun.. if you know someone who has a cane..you could use it.. even a piece of straight rebarb and it can be bent to work also.. might be a little harder.. I have seen the door knobs done and that looks really cool.. sometimes.. just have to sit down and think outside the box and use crazy items to do normal things.. lOl baseball bats have been used and so have hockey sticks.. Good luck and besure to take a pic and let us all see what you did. Huggy...See MoreWhere should I install the curtain rod on this kitchen window?
Comments (66)Notice the above valance -- the bottom of the valance is just covering the upper molding of the window. Inverted pleat too. Notice out it takes advantage of the upper space? Comments (19)I mounted them full-width of the room and LOVE IT THIS WAY! Thank you guys so much for the tip. Had it not been for you, I would have mounted close the window frame. Attached are photos and thoughts: - My room is actually pretty bright (window facing west), shooting against the light makes it look dark. - Yes, I know the curtains are way too short and not wide enough. I will buy double-width ones, and longer (then cut to the right length, just above the floor but not touching). - Yes, I will replace the ceiling fan. Let me know of any modern ones you think about. Either dark or light color is fine. - I will probably get rid of the vertical blinds and go for light-filtering curtains on the inside rod or bamboo/cellular blinds? The idea is to have an option to block out the harsh western sun at 5-8pm each day but not totally blackout the room. Any other ideas? - Are the curtains too high? I love the height but wonder if they are in fact crowding the molding too much. I also pulled the curtains too far out from the wall, I think if I push them in closer to the wall, it will crowd less. (I'm using Ikea curtain hardware with the adjustable slider mounts, btw.) - Are the curtain rods at the right distance from side walls? I think yes? - Do you guys think I should go for a lighter curtain color? I think I still like the dark rod. White rods kinda look too plastic-ey. - I love grommets because they slide and fold-up so nicely but willing to explore others (rod-pockets)....See Moredecormyhomepls
