Seems like that would be a positive attribute so that the little bitty grungies in pockets get washed. Kleenex bits, dust, frog slime from little boys storing frogs and other critters in their pockets, grime from change, etc.

What kind of washer? I have never had that happen.

The water flushing into and filling the pockets causes it. As said above its a good thing.

a bit OT but how about underwear turning inside out. i'm only doing my laundry, so can't blame anyone but KNOW i don't throw items into hamper inside out.

a billion years ago, when a newly wed, all that "housekeeping" stuff started out a s fun?? didn't take long before turning husband's t-shirts, underwear, & sock to right side out got really OLD. after a few gentle requests to toss them into laundry the correct way... with no change... i continued to was them but would kinda ball things up instead of folding. can't believe he actually had the you-know-whats to ask why? if he hadn't changed, was gonna have to start doing his own laundry!

I have the same magic underwear. And same story with DH, who was peeling off clothes and socks leaving them inside out. He's better now, doesn't do that. Socks are now okay, but I still get some shirts and shorts inside out. But not all of them.

The inside of a sock is what needs laundered, not the outside unless you're wearing socks to work in the garage. I'm ordered to turn socks inside out, so I do what I'm told.

DH's mother washed clothes inside out to resist wear and fadng. He didn't change, so to this day, if it goes into the laundry inside out, it comes out inside out. He fixes it when he puts it on.

My ancient Kenmore turns something inside out. It's just not something to get worked up about. It's sure better than a washboard and a wringer washer! I put them right when I fold the laundry, and yes, I DO fold my laundry.

I don't think I've ever turned socks inside out - they are only worn for one day and just how dirty can a clean foot get a sock?

I admit that this sock thing is one of my little irritations, too. Seems like a small thing, but a big annoyance. After asking him two or three times to turn the socks outside out before tossing them in the laundry to no avail, I simply put his freshly laundered socks in a pile on the bed, waiting for him to turn inside out, sort, fold, and put away.

He now takes them off in a different way, now.

I’m for inside out socks in the laundry. This may be TMI, but if one has dry skin, there is a residue of it inside the Sox. Eewww if it just stays there.

Ages ago Ann Landers printed a question about why men's undershorts go into the washer right side out and come out inside out. She was scornful of the lady's question, asking if she was certain she wasn't putting the shorts into the wash that way. Now, anyone who has ever actually *done* laundry for a household knows the question is valid. Landers had to retract her snide remark -- and the world realized that this advice maven was quite insulated from the world upon which she commented.

At home, I have a front load washer. It seldom 'turns' clothing. At the condo, I have an agitator washer that not only turns the clothes but makes my king size sheets into "Jailbreak Sheets", twisting them into ropes.

If I turn my socks inside out will they all stay in the washing machine or will some of them still disappear?

I do wash my running gear inside out as it's the inside that gets really sweaty and needs a good wash.

I’m far from an expert, but it seems to me that I at least hope that my clothes get washed all the way through, no matter which way they are turned.
