I need help decorating my living room.
Comments (22)I did read the thread and saw that you can't see the TV on the wall everyone suggested. I would face the sofa to the fireplace and put the chairs on either side of the FP facing each other. Put matching end tables and lamps on the FP side of the chairs. You need a larger rug that the sofa and chair legs can sit on to pull the seating into a conversation group. There is a little bit of a sense of clutter in one corner. I might remove the etagere from the room, thereby removing the clutter it contributes with the stacked books. Put the small table on that wall with a small lamp and some framed photos. There's possibly too many large lamps. I think I count three plus sconces and overhead lighting, but the placement is better in your new photos. I would also add a few larger pieces of art on the wall, table and/or mantel and bring some touches of red in. That will make the walls relate to the conversation group around the FP, which is the only place you have red....See MoreHelp decorating living rooom
Comments (3)You're saying the paint, carpet, and sofa aren't changing and you want help with accessories & colors, etc. I hate to say it, but the three main anchors in the room are fighting with each other (colors) and it's hard to recommend other colors when they're not working together. I can totally understand not replacing a sofa or carpet and I can understand not wanting to repaint for a variety of reasons, but this is where I would make a change. Your carpet is boss and if you want to stay neutral you're going to need something with the same pink undertone. I have the same brown/tan carpet with a pink undertone (as do many people in the world with 'neutral' carpet and tiles, etc.) throughout a large part of my house. Look at BM Muslin, BM Shaker Beige, or BM Patience. Your sofa is reading green on my monitor, but you say it's blue. I'd start by changing the wall color and work to add more blue and cream to the room. Do you have any inspiration photos? Does your style lean traditional? Do you like patterns? Prefer solids? If you really don't want to paint the option would be to layer a pattern rug on top of the carpet and make sure it has all the colors in and just keep repeating the colors throughout the room to make it look more intentional....See MoreI need help decorating my living room !!

Mix vinyl, silk and satin for layers of tactile interest; choose rugs, carpets and upholstery with geometric, rhythmic motifs. Animal prints are showy... Lacquer, polished wood and metal, and glossy paint combine for a slick and gleaming effect. Sprinkle glass and mirrored pieces...." Comments (3)Great simple, attractive design to start with. I don't think you need much more if you are mintaining contemporary look. Less will be more- but this also means focus on quality. Make every additional piece count. Wall color looks grey-? It reads a little lavendar on my monitor. Are you keeping that? If so, pillows with any color in them will have to compliment wall color (blue, for ex, may pull out more lavendar, which wouldn't look great, imo); so, too, should everything else. I would wait and do pillows last. Start with new rug or great piece of art, large scale and above the sofa, before getting pillows, etc. Find something that helps you confirm a simple color scheme, something to add to the white you have. Art will help add personality. Your orchid on table looks great. Oversized, stacked coffee table books always look great- even one stack of books, placed across from orchid. And maybe think about replacing blinds with something more contemporary- solar shades, in white, black, grey, or brown- depending on color scheme. A chandelier will look great- and try to have at least one more source of lighting, a floor and/or table lamp. And maybe a sleek, black, small pedestal side table. For a final touch, add something green and alive- A vase of bamboo stalks or some modern looking plant. Good luck!...See MoreMindy Pricken
