Need help...don't know where to start!
Comments (5)I love your antique trunk - that will certainly help set a country/cottage mood. It's really useful too, since it can be a coffee table or a media stand, or a side table. Also interesting that your sofa back is sort of a reverse Camel back. If it works, I'd like to see the sofa on the wall without windows, so that the straight line of the window sill does not compete with the reverse curve. Your rug is pretty and colors are a close match to sofa, but it is rather small. Would it work in your entry way instead? Remember to make your bench cushion 4-5 inches thick. Right now the only pattern that you have is from the afghans. It will be easier to furnish the room after you introduce a pattern or two. I'd probably start with patterned draperies, because they'll have a big effect. Then you can either choose a subdued rug or layer more pattern. Same with the upholstery for your chairs. I love quilts on the wall, but I think your afghan would probably stretch out too much, so I'd continue to use them as throws instead. As others have suggested, take it slowly - you'll have a better result, and hopefully it's more enjoyable too....See MoreHelp decorating living rooom
Comments (3)You're saying the paint, carpet, and sofa aren't changing and you want help with accessories & colors, etc. I hate to say it, but the three main anchors in the room are fighting with each other (colors) and it's hard to recommend other colors when they're not working together. I can totally understand not replacing a sofa or carpet and I can understand not wanting to repaint for a variety of reasons, but this is where I would make a change. Your carpet is boss and if you want to stay neutral you're going to need something with the same pink undertone. I have the same brown/tan carpet with a pink undertone (as do many people in the world with 'neutral' carpet and tiles, etc.) throughout a large part of my house. Look at BM Muslin, BM Shaker Beige, or BM Patience. Your sofa is reading green on my monitor, but you say it's blue. I'd start by changing the wall color and work to add more blue and cream to the room. Do you have any inspiration photos? Does your style lean traditional? Do you like patterns? Prefer solids? If you really don't want to paint the option would be to layer a pattern rug on top of the carpet and make sure it has all the colors in and just keep repeating the colors throughout the room to make it look more intentional....See MoreHelp! Comments (44)Sounds like you and hubby aren’t on the same page. Buying a table, without ability to return is red flag to me. He bought that rug too without your involvement. The rug is wrong size and style. No photo of the table. But better sit down and talk about this and reach some compromises otherwise, these situations can fester and get ugly over time....See MoreHelp with living room decor
Comments (4)Yes, the dark couches with the dark rug is too much. Put in top search box modern rug pattern color in photos and see all the ideas. One I liked was the rug with a white background and black diamond pattern. Another was a rug with off-white and green diamond pattern. Blues are fine - very calming. Also bring those colors into huge wall art and accessories such as a throw, pillows, lamp base, etc. Speaking of lighting, I might trade out that three light fixture number you have for the following: a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner at chest height. You may not have a modern look, but instead a casual look due to the couches. Educate yourself about the different decor styles by putting them one at a time in the top search box. Start off with modern, then casual, then eclectic, then transitional, etc....See MoreRelated Professionals
