Ikea 24" Base Kitchen Cabinet Undermount Sink Questions

The inside of the base cabinet is 22.5". Countertops will be granite.

This sink shows that it will fit on there website specs:

22" total length. Minimum base cabinet size: 24"

We like this sink more however:

We already have the cabinets and 24" is only size that fits so getting a bigger cabinet won't work. Do you think the second sink would give us any problems when installing? There wouldn't be room for clips on the sides holding it up but i've heard they can use epoxy or they could use L brackets to the side cabinet walls.

Any advice from sink installers / cabinet experts that have any experience installing sinks within tight cabinets?

Your second choice will fit easily, but disregard clips or brackets, please. You want to strap this sink in place with a Hercules Universal Sink Harness (Braxton Bragg) or a Sink Strap or two from Regent Stone Products. When you strap, not having room is no longer an issue as the connection(s) are made at the sink bottom instead of at the flange.

I undermounted a 33" sink into a 33" cabinet yesterday and do it regularly.

I hope it's ok to ask a related question here. I have seen Joseph's replies to other posts recommending the HUSH solution, but I don't know enough to be able to explain to my contractor why this can work. I, too, have a 24" IKEA Sektion cabinet and want to install the longest undermount sink possible. Based on what I've read about HUSH, I thought I could select a Kohler undermount with basin length = 22.25". But my contractor said that the flange is still 24" and asked if the flange sits on top of the cabinet and, if so, how that impacts the countertop. I'd be grateful if you can point me in the right direction Joseph! FYI, here is the sink: https://www.build.com/kohler-k-5286-kitchen-sink/s867441?uid=2217519#specifications

Hi Writersblock! What were you thinking would be a concern? Here's what we know from our install-- let me know if there's something we missed! The edges of the sink when undermounted are the same height as all the cabinets in the sink run, so while the sink probably bears some weight, it bears no more or less than any of the other cabinets in the run. The countertops in ANY sink run aren't supported continuously-- they're supported periodically along the run by cabinet sides. Whether the weight is supported at any particular point by a wooden cabinet edge or a porcelain sink edge shouldn't really matter at any rate-- we're only talking about a few hundred pounds of wood, tile or stone. The only time you'd have a problem is if someone screwed up and raised or lowered a cabinet (or a sink, I guess) so far that you'd cause a stress crack. So as long as all the cabinets and undermount sink are the same level, unless someone did something REALLY strange, havig a thick, sturdy (and the Domsjo is nothing, if not that) porcelain sink bear its fair share of countertop weight shouldn't be worth a second thought.

michael, I think you'll be saving yourself a headache by going a little smaller front-to-back on the sink. My faucet is standard diameter (forget what that is),drilled 2.75" on center back from the sink edge which is also standard. I did go smaller on the prep cabinet width than the manufacturer recommended but I calculated every dimension and knew exactly how much the cabinet sides needed to be routered to accomodate it. Sorry vegetarian, I still haven't done pictures but it's a pretty conventional setup; rectangular sink, single hole faucet centered behind, soap dispenser on the right. Sink is the Elkay 2115, faucet Blanco Classic, KWC Primo soap dispenser. gneegirl, you shouldn't have an issue since with a D sink the faucet is usually mounted at the corner where the sink curves in. You won't be able to mount it behind the sink. You can probably go a little bigger than 16" with a rectangular and be OK. My kitchen is small and I got the same size undermount sink that I had in my old kitchen as a drop in - 15x21. It's big enough to put cookie sheets and 30" wall oven racks flat on the bottom. The undermount does feel smaller than the drop in and I'm a little sorry I didn't go for the 23" Kindred. Dirty dishes go directly into the dishwasher drawers so the only thing in the sink might be pots soaking so size is not a big issue. I have a separate prep sink near the cooktop.

We are almost done with the process of installing our cabinets ourselves--due to a change in circumstances this has turned into a DIY project from a professional installation. We have a 42 inch corner sink base--the 42" is measured from one of the cabinet sides adjacent to the door to the opposite cabinet side. If ours was the unit the last picture above the cabinet side just to the right of the door would be 42 inches from the cabinet side that is attached to the kitchen's wall. For our setup, we can go up to 33 inches for an undermount, bigger if we put filler pieces between the sink base and adjacent cabinets or if there are no top drawers in the adjacent cabinets. If you want to go with the 33 inch sink, you need the 42" corner sink base. Hope this helps. We're still trying to pick out our sink--we only have to install the sink base and a couple of relatively easy other cabinets in this week so we can get templated (no pressure). Good luck!

The Vision has what's called a chamfored edge--it's beveled. My other choice was a D sink, which I didn't care for. I went from a 36" sink cabinet to a 27". I gained a trash cabinet, which thrilled me! Previous sink was a Kohler double sink of about the same length IIRC. The Vision has plenty of room for washing dishes. I put my dishes into the DW instead of letting them sit in the sink, but If you have a family that's not willing to put their dishes away, it might get annoying to not have free sink space for rinsing something, for instance. It looks tiny in this photo but it's not really. It's 23 x 17. My other choice for a rectangular sink was the Kohler Riverby. There might be some apron-front sinks that will fit.

Hi Joseph,

I know this is an old tread but it was very helpful. I have have a similar situation as Bennett. I want to use the Kraus sink with the IKEA 24 inch pull out sink inch cabinet and a delta Trinsic faucet. Will I be able to fit the faucet behind the sink in the stone?

I know this is an older thread but just curious if you were able to get the 22” sink in the 24” base IKEA cabinet. We are in the same situation. I want a bigger sink but only can fit the 24” cabinet.
