Calling all Ikea Domsjo farm sink owners!!
Comments (10)This sink is an overmount- meaning it sits on top of the counter. The sinks are heavy - the smaller one weights almost 75 pounds. When you buy the sink, it comes with two metal bars and a pair of fairly odd sink clips. The two bars go across the front and the back edge of the cabinet. The sink is seated partly on the bars (altho, they mostly hold the cabinet together) and ON the countertop. The metal bars are fixed length and may not fit well into another cabinet. Both sides of the sink have a lip that sits on the counter. It might be possible to route the sides of your cabinet or the adjoining cabinets and try to undermount one, but I know nothing about the mechanics of doing it. The pair of odd sink clips simply tie down the sink to the cabinet so it can't be pulled out accidentally....See MoreHow do you install dishwasher air gap with IKEA DOMSJÖ sink?
Comments (4)Thanks everyone you for your quick feedback! Quick correction to my point number 3 above. Other IKEA sinks can fit a 36" cabinet. After talking through all of these options with another IKEA salesperson today, I decided to choose this option. Will make my contractor's job much easier....See MoreDrop in farmhouse sink? Will I hate it? Ikea Domsjo double
Comments (21)We have the Domsjo double sink and it is absolutely amazing. No complaints what so ever. It is huge, and exactly what we wanted. Don't mind sliding crumbs into my hand and just throwing them into the sink. 3 extra seconds. big woop! There is a HUGEEE cost savings with using the Domsjo sink. So the sink is 27x37 inches. That is 7 sqft. If you were getting an undermount sink, you'd have to buy the slab that goes across the sink PLUS pay for them to cut a hole in it. So assuming a granite/quartz around $60, the sink cutout just cost you $420 for the material to cut, plus $150 for the cutout labor. So about $600. Plus the cost of a comparable sink (at minimum $500-600). So, the Ikea Domsjo is $312 and no cost of cutout or the material to cut out of. Whereas you are at $1100 minimum for undermount. SAVE YOUR MONEY and use it for awesome countertops, backsplash tiles, better appliance, etc. :)...See MoreIKEA Domsjo Sink - Drilling extra hole
Comments (5)The single has tap outs if you look underneath (at least it used to before Sektion). For the double follow Joseph's advice and have someone run water to keep it cool while you drill....See Morewritersblock (9b/10a)
