I posted a similar question some weeks ago and never got an answer. My concern is whether I can still use a 3 cm granite backsplash with the dimensions you describe and whether there would be enough room for the single lever faucet to move back and forth? I will be very interested to read the responses to your inquiry.

I see your problem, too. I'm just worried the faucets themselves won't fit!

WOW - this problem is more common than I thought.

I posted about this the other day - see "can't find on my own...". Based on the responses, including the one here,I think I'll be OK. One thing I will say though, when I had a couple of KDs come out when I first started this, I was told that because the cabinet base was so narrow, I would have to go with a "D" shaped sink. That will allow more space for the faucet. My problem with that is that most of that style sink have the drain in the back of the sink. My wall space will only allow center drain - because of the garbage disposal. I could have everything replumbed, but that's a major underaking since that is also where the main pipes are located - really impedes creativity!!

I'm anxious to see what responses you get. Please post if you find something suitable. I will, as well.

have you checked the sink specs; they should tell you minimum cabinut size.also, you mention the inside width, but you need to consider the exterior measurement, as the faucet hole will have to be drilled behind the edge of the bowl; the common size hole for the faucet is 1/38". as mentioned above, a D-shaped sink allows for a deeper sink because the faucet is off set to the side, so the sink can be closer to the wall.

Thanks for responding, glad; my understanding of "minimum cabinet size" was that it referred to left to right width, not front to back size. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has an 18" undermount sink, (18" front to back), in a standard 24" deep base cabinet.

Looking at the exterior measurement was a good start, though I'm not sure which faucet I'm getting, so I'm not sure yet if this is even possible!

sorry, you are right michael - the minimum cab depth is for width. are you trying to do a rectangle? if that adds 1" on each side for exterior size (i'm just guessing!) that gives you only 2-3" in front and back (counter is 25"), which would seem tight with the faucet.the "D" shape, would give more room to work with,though.(i'm just doing a 21x15)

I had the exact same issues and had planned to do the quartz as a backsplash also...had to scrap that plan because wouldn't have had enough room for a faucet. My sink is in as well as my faucet. I found that i was limited as to the faucet type. Couldn't buy the one I really wanted but am happy with what I picked.

I have 4" of counter at front edge of sink(including where it lips over), 5 1/2" at back of sink and faucet is 2" away from backsplash. That will be your major concern in picking a faucet; read the specs carefully so the lever on your faucet has enough room to operate correctly.

You're at the hairy edge and will have to look closely at your specs. Taking a guess, I don't think you have room for a faucet. Don't forget that your 24" deep cabinet is the exterior dimension; interior is likely about 22.5". The exterior dimension of you sink is essential and your counter guy will have an opinion about the minimum the sink must be set back from the front edge.

I pushed my guy down to 3.25" from the front edge - which includes 1.5" overhang from the cabinet box, plus .75 cabinet thickness plus 1" sink flange. With a 15" interior dimension sink that left me with 6.25" to the wall; with a standard faucet hole drilling, there is 3.25" behind the faucet for backsplash and movement of the top mounted faucet control.

I wouldn't risk an 18" rectangular sink unless you're doing a wall mounted faucet.

Sorry to butt in Michael, but wanted to follow up with judeny's post. Does that mean than I can only get a 15" interior, sink? What about a D-shaped one? I'm really getting nervous about this one. My drop-in is oh so tight right now so that's alway been a concern. After having looked for sinks, with only a week and a half to find one, I'm starting to fray around the edges. If you have the 15", is it working for you?

I still dont see the problem.
There should be plenty of room for the sink, bacskplash and the faucet, as long as the faucet handle doesnt have a funky curvature to the rear.

Assuming a 1 1/2 inch overhang, and setting the sink opening 3 1/4 back from the front with an 18 inch opening and a 1 1/8 inch thick backsplash, leaves you with 3 1/8 inches to mount the faucet in.

Thats plenty, assuming the faucet handle you chose, doesnt tilt rearward when you operate it. There are very few handles that do this, but the ones that do, are popular.

Its not uncommon for us to route a area out of the top of the face frame (for the sink lip) to facilitate pulling the sink forward another 1/2 inch when were templating, if it seems more room is needed.

The 18" measure is the inside dimensions of the opening.

On most sinks there is 1 to 2 inches to mount the sink, that is fron back and sides. so you need 20 to 22 inches of cabinet opening. the inside dimension on a 24" cabinet is usually 23".

Things always get very, very tight on the bigger sinks.

michael, I think you'll be saving yourself a headache by going a little smaller front-to-back on the sink. My faucet is standard diameter (forget what that is),drilled 2.75" on center back from the sink edge which is also standard. I did go smaller on the prep cabinet width than the manufacturer recommended but I calculated every dimension and knew exactly how much the cabinet sides needed to be routered to accomodate it.

Sorry vegetarian, I still haven't done pictures but it's a pretty conventional setup; rectangular sink, single hole faucet centered behind, soap dispenser on the right. Sink is the Elkay 2115, faucet Blanco Classic, KWC Primo soap dispenser.

gneegirl, you shouldn't have an issue since with a D sink the faucet is usually mounted at the corner where the sink curves in. You won't be able to mount it behind the sink. You can probably go a little bigger than 16" with a rectangular and be OK. My kitchen is small and I got the same size undermount sink that I had in my old kitchen as a drop in - 15x21. It's big enough to put cookie sheets and 30" wall oven racks flat on the bottom. The undermount does feel smaller than the drop in and I'm a little sorry I didn't go for the 23" Kindred. Dirty dishes go directly into the dishwasher drawers so the only thing in the sink might be pots soaking so size is not a big issue. I have a separate prep sink near the cooktop.

unfortunately I have no pictures to share. But I was able to use a 18 by 21 undermount sink in a 24' cabinet and still have room to center the faucet at the back and have a 'pull down' drawer front on the 24' cabinet for sponges, etc.

For reference, the link includes pictures of my 19X21 inch undermount. It is D shaped Franke for the concerns you raise. The faucet is in the upper right hand corner. It is 8 inches (9 inches with countertop) deep. I am very happy with the size of the sink. It holds a lot and is deep enough to hide a few dirty dishes.

rawdeal, michael specified that the sink he was looking at has an 18" interior dimension. Your sink has a 15.75" interior dimension, 18" exterior ! - which is the size which will fit fine in a 24" deep cabinet.

Thanks all - very helpful info!! The templator was here today and said I could go with a 16" sq sink and have 4 holes in the back. I could only have 2 with the D shape. I think I like the square because I guess I'm old and since I've known, faucets always go in the back. However, side mounts do look pretty good though. My current drop-in has 16" interior and he said that I should be OK with any shape as long as the interior was the same as what I have. Not sure if I said it before, but there is NO space between my sink and counter. I think I'm going to look for an undermount the same size as what I have now. Down to the wire and not sure if even Galaxy can meet my deadline - MONDAY!!!
