Lard substitute?

I have a recipe I want to try this afternoon (Piadina, as seen on Christopher Kimball's new program, "Milk Street.") The recipe calls for lard, which I don't have on hand and I can't get to the store today. I know it normally is acceptable to use shortening as a substitute, but the flavor would be lacking. I have a bit of pure bacon grease in the fridge, if I measure out the shortening and then take out a tablespoon or so and mix an equal amount of the bacon grease in, would that approximate the flavor, do you think?
