Recessed Lighting Family Room Layout Advice!
Comments (2)Must politely disagree with davidr. I had recessed lighting in my large basement rec/family room in my previous home and it did a wonderful job keeping the room well lit. I think your plan looks pretty good, but it would be enhanced to also have lamps on side tables that would give you lower light when someone is just sitting and reading, or when you have a fire going and want softer, lower light. You can achieve this with wall sconces, too, but lamps give you more flexiblity and I prefer to leave the walls for art. The one thought I had on your layout is that it is not so good for people sitting and talking to each other as you are all awfully far away from each other! Perhaps moving the TV to the wall opposite the windows and the sofa to the TV spot and then bring the sofas inward off the walls a bit to create a cozier feel. The chairs could then also be moved around to face the TV if needed....See MoreFamily Room Furniture Layout Dilemma - Advice Needed!
Comments (5)What Jamie said. Unless you use the chair to watch TV. Right now, the chair is blocking entry into the room and the couch and chair are both too far away from the TV. So, TV to the left of the fireplace. Sofa facing the fireplace. Chair on the right of the fireplace. Bookcases on the wall opposite the window....See MoreAdvice for Rental Family Room with Odd Layout
Comments (18)When the tree is taken down ... You could (get an extender cable if necessary) for your tv cable and put your tv angled in that corner so you "cover" only a part of the smaller window. Put your art now right of the tv on the wall over your sofa. Alternately, if tv location doesn't require the tv to be on any one side of the room, and If your sofa will fit, consider putting the wider section of the sectional beneath where you have the art now hung -- against the wall that is at a right angle to the window wall. Move your tv to the wall opposite of where it is now. Your child(ren) may like having a a pair of the newer kind of "adult" bean bag chairs facing it. IF you do put the back of your sofa against your windows, don't put it against the wall -- leave "breathing" space for the windows -- especially if they're prone to have condensation on them. You'd also want room for any drapes you want to add to actually drape. You should expect the back of the sofa to be discolored if there is any direct sunlight via those windows. Consider buying a runner rug (as close to the window width as possible and as close to the width of the room as possible -- make it wide and long enough to cover that odd two color curved section of the room rug. Be careful the edges are not tripping hazards....See Moreneed advice for best furniture layout for family room.
Comments (3)You could easily do two sofas and two chairs or a sectional and two chairs. Here are a few ideas from designs of ours:...See Moreuser432516
