New home...Any Suggestions?
Comments (7)I agree with you 100% on the safety issue there.....though you seem to be the first person to agree with me on that. Unfortunately, since we bought a house at the top of our price range, we don't have the money to rearrange the kitchen until DH is out of school. :( In the spirit of making the best of my situation...I have basically put those two burners out of commission. (See attached picture) I tend to cook pretty simple meals so this works most of the time. Gel staining is an excellent idea. I will have to look into that! Green designs: That tile is really pretty. I had thought of tile as well....I really like the look of the penny tile that the petersiks used on Younghouselove (http://images.younghouselove.com.s3.amazonaws.com/2012/03/kitchen-shelves-detail.jpg) and was thinking about putting that in behind the stove. It's interesting that both of you suggested green! That is a color I actually hadn't considered except for maybe a lime to contrast with the cherry red I've got going. I shall have to explore this :P Here is a link that might be useful:...See MoreBM colors for my new home...any sugegstions welcome
Comments (1)I'm not familiar with BM, but SW Misty is a lovely silvery blue, most silver with just a hint of blue. The next darker color, Samovar Silver is also nice. If you want a bit more blue, SW Krypton is very nice for a bedroom color. We have Krypton in our bedroom and I love it. You might just want to check out those colors and if you like them, you could have BM mix them for you....See MoreNeed color scheme suggestions for new house
Comments (7)There is no way in hell I would even consider painting walls in a house I had never lived in.....and even without my furniture in place. The sun in the morning and the sun in the evening....what reflects off a garage a fence or a neighbor's house how your beloved hutch looks all affect the colors and tones of the paint and finishes I would consider. Colors look very different at night then they do on a sunny day and walls look different in an empty room than in the same room with furniture. Tell your friend to move in before he begins to select paints and finishes. I know it's a pain to move out of a room to refinish it....but I believe he will be happier in the long run. I have seen too many people who had to choose the colors and finishings in a new house, repainting in 3 months because the color was too dark or looked like white in the day time or because with the tile the walls look wrong and it's easier to paint than re-tile. It's fun to plan new finishes....but don't do more than fix a leaky faucet until you have been in the house for a while. Our first house was brand new plaster on lathe and we were told not to paint for at least 6 months to allow the plaster to fully cure. By the time the 6 months was over, I was so sick of all the white walls, I painted the living/dining area something like harvest wheat.....which was like dark mustard when all the walls were that color! I could hardly wait until the paint was dry to re do it!...But I was over reacting to 6 months without color!...See MoreAny suggestions for exterior paint colors and new lights?
Comments (10)I like these ideas!! The pinkish pavers are staying for a few years. I think after a pressure wash they will be closer to red. I can't change the roof for another few years so that will be staying at least 5 or so years. I am planning on having a very lush landscape. I'm lucky to have a friend in the business! My neighbor across the street has a peach-pink house. It's beautiful, very spanish-style and ornate. I don't want to look like I am trying to copy them, though. The house is like double mine! lol My neighborhood is a mix of different style homes. Mediterranean, key west, spanish, Florida. There's no association or consistency in style on my street, so anything goes here. Many homes with red features - a lot of red roofs and dark red trim. Here's an image I found with a red paver driveway, but the roof tiles are also the same red. Also, I see many beautiful features that really bring this together, like the details around the windows, sills, brackets under the roof over hang. This one is a little older but very nice details. Here's a few brand new homes in my area that I looove and wish I could replicate some how in my own version. I can't even imagine how to make mine like them. Any suggestions? ^This one has a red driveway!...See MoreKarin Contini
