Speed Queen Washing Machine
Comments (91)I bought the Speed Queen washer AWNE828P113TW01 and dryer model numberADGE9RGS113TW01 about 3 weeks ago so I can't speak to long term reliability, but I notice a few things immediately, both positive and negative. I had a GE washer and dryer for about 8 years and had them fixed about 4 times. The dryer arrived unable to heat clothes and took weeks to fix. The washer broke 3 times, fortunately under the extended warranty, with repairs that would have required buying a new machine if it weren't under warranty. Although I certainly got my money's worth out of the warranty, with each repair I had to go to the laundromat where I washed my clothes with Speed Queen machines. After the last breakdown, I decided to buy them. They aren't particularly attractive but I like the smaller size of these machines. The salesman tried to talk me into a front loading machine, saying I could do much larger loads but when I had him check on the difference it was 0.1 cubic feet, about the size of a pair of socks. The Speed Queen is louder than my old GE front loader under normal conditions but the GE would often make a terrible noise if it became unbalanced and would "walk" several inches from it's beginning position. Also, with the pedestals the front loaders appeared so massive it was like having a school bus in my laundry room. The Speed Queen washer is fast, gets my clothes clean without having to do an extra rinse or two (unlike the front loaders) and because it came with an included manufacturer's warranty, was competitively priced with the flashier front loaders. I like that the appearance is understated because I think all the laundry appliances are unattractive. I spend less time doing laundry with these machines, mostly because the washer is so much faster than a front loader. I understand the water issues are important in many parts of the country and favor front loaders but I live in Minnesota and it's not as much of an issue here. I'm hoping if these are more reliable I'll be able to keep them longer and keep broken appliances out of a landfill. I can't help thinking the front loaders have been oversold. The sales people just raved about the front loaders and said I wouldn't be happy if I went back to a top loading machine, but they were wrong. For me, my top loading SQ washer better so far. Time will tell....See MoreSelecting a washing machine - LG vs Huebsch(Speed Queen)
Comments (1)I am not the best person to answer your questions, but I did want to tell you that while I've been happy with the capacity of my LG (I have a top loading HE, 3 years old), the rotor (motor part) has gone out two times. LG's customer service has been great though- they are sending a tech out next week to fix the rotor, and they did so the first time. The motor is covered for 10 years. One question is, how far out do you live? Can a tech get to your house easily? My feeling is that maybe SQ is easier to fix than LG, although I don't know. To get my LG fixed, I've had to use the repair people that LG contracts with. One thing you might do is ask the appliance people who you would have to get out to fix the LG if there are any problems (if you want to get it fixed under warranty). Same with SQ. How do you feel about the capacity of your Bosch? Go to You Tube and look at some videos of Speed Queen and LG- you'd be surprised at how many videos there are of people doing their laundry there! You can get an idea of how much a SQ can hold and see if it looks okay for you. The large capacity is nice for bedding and towels, but I don't have 6 kids :) Honestly though, I've been happy with the LG for large loads, but for small and medium loads, the washer seems to have to rebalance those loads all the time- which it does by adding more water and redistributing the clothing I think this wastes more water than regular top loaders! I also find the cloths get all tangled because there is no spindle in the middle. Maybe I have a lemon, I don't know if other machines do this or not. For my 2 adult household, this is more drum capacity than I need. Do you do all your laundry together, or separate into colors? The LG seems to do best if it's stuffed to the brim (at least in my machine, I can't speak for others). I'm currently looking at getting a SQ!...See MoreWhich washing machine? Comments (9)Be very careful about the build quality, customer service, and promises made by GE. They plumbed up the appliance cash cow for sale. If the sale to Electrolux doesn't go through there will be consequences. The quality of most of the GE laundry appliances is just so-so in my opinion. As in everything YMMV. There are winners, losers, and lemons in every product line as well. You will not find an easy consensus on anything because there are so many choices and no perfect solutions. Many bells and whistles and duplicate cycles to attract your attention. Who does most of the laundry? What are your must-haves? HE toploaders are a disaster. Consumers who don't read manuals or follow common sense have given some perfectly acceptable frontloaders a bad reputation with their bad habits. You will find a following for F&P on the forum as well as those who hate them. Speed Queen has a cult following on this forum. Most of us had to plod through, make a few mistakes, and decide what worked best for each. Do your appliances have to match? My compromise was to get the functionality in the frontloader (LG) I needed and pair it with the same color, but different manufacturer cheaper dryer. It's mostly worked out for us. BTW Speed Queen does make front loaders, but they do not have on-board heaters. I assume you are already acquainted with the differences in today's machines for limits of water temperatures and water levels and what you have been used to. First thing I would do is make sure I knew exactly what I needed at my best price point. Good Luck...See MoreSpeed Queen 2018 owners or washing machine recommendations?
Comments (42)Suseyb I am looking at something that fits my personal physical problems. The French doors are ridiculous. They look good but you need three hands unless you have the inside of the refrigerator memorized. I can’t just open a side-by-side and put a bowl in the refrigerator because they make no good side by side. Then the freezer on the bottom will cause me dizziness. If I lift something with my unusable righ hand arm, I can tear my torn rotator cuff. The Consumer Report Appliance issue disagrees with personal experiences on here. And store reports are made up. There is not one review of refrigerators on this vast, wonderful gardenweb that gives any of them high marks. Not one that has been used for two years. I know the problems in all of your appliances and whatever the real manufacturer never fixes them. Sad. The Washinton Post had an article saying just what we talk about here and all over the appliance board. Small appliance stores used to make a whole lot of money selling Maytag and whirlpool and GE profile but now they have lemons. And their high income buyers can't get a reliable product. Bosch, Sub Zero are just as bad though expensive. Tariffs are going to add another thousand onto our misery. I don't understand why they don’t fix their products. Why they don’t have quality control. I am so sorry to say this....See Moreelaine86music
