NO, I do not!!! lol These days, fortunately, when renting a vacation place, there's usually photos. There is nothing to irk me more than going in someplace to find that uncomfortable wicker/rattan furniture. I don't mind a side table or chair.

I admit, I haven't sat in a lot of wicker chairs, but it does seem like the couple I have weren't very comfortable. Maybe like others said, with good cushions. I do like the look of them though.

I am with moonie occasionally you will find a piece that is comfortable to sit in but those are generally loosely woven and give when you move. At the price of wicker and rattan furniture a loosely woven one will wear out to soon. Besides many that you see are plastic and not natural materials.

We have two wicker chairs in our Maui condo. They came from Pier 1. They wear well, but are a chore to clean. The trick is to have good, thick, foam cushions made for them. The cushions they come with are junk.

Sunbrella fabric is the best. The cushions need to be dense.

Wicker or rattan you asked.....the latest craze is dark brown plastic wicker. It's not "right" for every situation tho....

My favorite wicker chairs are the ones with a sagging seat and with that "rustic" look i.e. falling apart. In other words, well broken in. Otherwise yes, cushions are a must.

annieg, the photos you linked to suggest that woman is a declutterer's nightmare. Yikes, you could remove 2/3rds or more of what's in those rooms and they still would be too busy for my taste. (How can anyone sit on any of those chairs/couches with the large pillows on them?)

Back to the question, I think wicker chairs can be very uncomfortable. Note that even the ones without foam pads have thick blanket things on them. I don't care for them, either as this woman has overdone them or even more plainly.

I like them, and even the fake type rattan is nice and holds up much better. As long as you have good cushioning its great.

I have had a screened porch full of wicker furniture over the years. Get expensive, good chairs. Really sit in them first, with a cushion from the same store. Do not get any love seat. No matter how expensive they are not constructed well. I am a small person, but they still don't feel securely structured or comfortable, Over time the loveseats develop a dip in them.

I have indoor/outdoor wicker table and chairs in my sunroom (it's brown) We eat out there 3/4 of the year and it's very nice. I do have cushions on the seats because they are a little deep but otherwise very happy with it.

They are too noisy for me. And it seems like they always take up too much room.

I prefer rattan. We had a really good quality set for years. You get what you pay for.

Your kitchen should be very cozy when you are done. What matters is using things you like.

The more expensive, quality built seating will sometimes be built with euro slats under the cushions. Ours is, and it's quite comfortable.

We had a very nice set in our sunroom. It was 2 regular rocking chairs and 2 swivel rockers, a small table and a storage bench. It came with good reversible cushions. I love to rock and enjoyed sitting in them. I would love to have that set again for our sunroom here in the new house. Of course we lost it all in the flood. My grandparents had several sets of wicker in the big country house so I grew up with it. I inherited a set of theirs, it was very very old and well used. It's gone now too.

Oh the joy of a big southern screened porch with a giant wicker swing and lots of pillows. That was a favorite reading and napping location growing up.

These were all made with the dark brown plastic wicker, which I guess is more durable.

Gorgeous! Always a stunning backyard option, but definitely the top choice for tropical spaces.

I have sat in metal furniture without cushions that is more comfortable than most wicker/rattan with cushions. It's not the softness that is missing in wicker, it's the poor design. Most wicker is not ergonomic. From back support to depth of seating I think they design the stuff to look at not actually relax on.
