Oh No! Sad news Dolly Parton has died

I just heard a news break that Dolly has passed away. Like her or not, she was a very talented woman, wrote and sang songs from her heart, her philanthropy was off the charts, and she really seemed more and more genuine as she grew older. I will miss her and the attitude and fun she always seemed to project.

That is good of you to do all this for Ted & the boys. It will help Ted to move on & will make him feel loved & cared about. He must be so stressed, give him a hug from all of us & the boys too. They really need to know their mom was cared about & would be helpful if someone is assigned to take some discrete pics of flowers,people, etc. Not the casket unless you think it should be(from a distance) My kids were 15 & 17 & they wanted to see pics a few months later & then talk about losing their dad (heart attack at 48 yrs old) We had service outside at grave & 15 people sang his favorite church songs on a lovely day,besides regular minister doing the service. My kids & I were rather dazed that day but I did go home & write down some of the nice comments I heard about my hubby. I kept all the cards & letters & kids didn't read them until several years later, then it was a good feeling. I still have them & it is 25 yrs ago last Sept. So put things down & keep cards & pics & 1 day they will be like a visit from mom or a "closeness to her" Ted may also want to see them or maybe be the keeper of them but just because they have no interest in them now down the years they may be very important to them. Thanks for being there & stepping up to the plate, so many don't but people on this forum still seem to have great values & you are 1 of them. Hugs & prayers coming to all of you. Jan

Thank you all so much for the kind words! For those of you who thought Jammer and I were already married....well, we were in heart. Now we are just doing the legal stuff. I have felt guilty ever since I made this post because I felt I didn't say enough about Tatum. It's just so hard to say how much she meant to all of us and how much we miss her. I have told stories here about her. She kind of reminded me of Marley in the book Marley and Me. She was soooo hyper and soooo big! She broke two of my toes on two different occasions just because she was running around me and I was barefooted. I quickly learned to always have something on my feet when around her! And when I took her on the leash, LOL, was like seeing a cartoon. Tatum trying to run and me being dragged behind! We didn't even use a typical leash, we used a horse lead rope. LOL She loved socks and we had to make sure none were laying around if she was in the room. One time she grabbed a thin black sock and then making sure she was just beyond my reach, she stared deep into my eyes and proceeded to swallow the sock. I could tell she felt so satisfied to do that. Anyway, she has left a big hole in our lives, but we have some great memories. As far as the wedding plans....we are getting married tomorrow in our church. Just Jammer, me and the preacher. I am still not feeling well and don't feel like being around people.

Oh No!! Coffee maker died.

There's been times mine has died but I've usually had an extra of some type around here. First I had a 4 cup Mr. Coffee that I carried with me back in my traveling days - that was before the motel rooms had coffeemakers in them. I wanted my coffee in the morning. So that worked for a backup when the one at home died. Then it died and I had decided to get a bigger one at home, didn't travel for work anymore and then my Dad gave me my mother's old electric glass percolator and *that* was the best coffeemaker I've ever had. Sadly, and it was a sad day when it died. It perked but the hotplate didn't work to keep it warm. If I'd been thinking I'd have just put it in a "thermos" but I wasn't thinking. Then was on a decluttering binge and tossed it. Didn't even try to fix it, though it was my intention. Wound up with a couple cheapie Proctor Silex $7-$10 units and one finally died, the other is going strong. It won't die. For me the cheapones last longest. Expensive ones didn't last as long though the Norelco did give good service. A friend of mine is a coffee addict! She drinks pots of coffee a day. She lives on the iron range where the water obviously is rock, er "iron" hard and they go through coffeemakers quite quickly though I think part of it is that hers runs about 18 hours a day and most aren't made to take that. I suggested she go to a commercial coffee outfit and let them provide the coffeemaker and she buy the coffee from them. Price-wise it's at least as cheap as in the stores up there and would probably be cheaper. Anyway, this is getting long, isn't it, so back to my point: One day her coffeemaker died. She panicked, literally, and ran out to the closest store and all they had was, as she put it "one of those old-fashioned coffee pots", aka a percolator. She couldn't get used to using it. (How hard is it?) I tried to teach her but she couldn't get used to it so I found the cheapies on sale again and shipped her two of them so she'd have a spare. Talk about excited! And they did last quite a while compared to her usual coffee pot turnaround. Geez, Dotmom, car troubles, coffeemaker troubles... when will it end??? :) Speaking of which, how's the car doing? Haven't been around a while so I haven't snooped for an update.

Years and years ago I used to watch Merv Griffin's talk show after school. He had Dolly on when she was starting out in movies. I remember being totally blown away by her origin story, and also her grace and intelligence given her origins. A smart, sophisticated woman! Unfortunately, my only previous exposure to her was her commercial for "Breeze" detergent where she excitedly exclaimed how you could get a free dishtowl exclusively from them. Between her outfit and her accent, it gave off the opposite vibe as she did in her interview! Just goes to show, don't judge a book by its cover.

I was stunned when this news appeared on my watch while I was potting plants outside. Although I'm definitely not a country music fan,

I loved Dolly and her self-deprecating personality. She was a wonderful person who gave so much to so many. I was surprised because three days ago she gave an interview to People magazine

it's being said that she admitted to putting her own health concerns on a back burner while she was caring for her dying husband. that's the kind of person she was, and while i'm sad to see her gone, i admire her for caring so deeply for him.

I don't care for the genre of music she was active in but I respected her accomplishments. I also remember that she was generous with charitable giving. Not seemingly in an insincere "look what I did" sense but rather publicly only when (as it appeared) motivated by trying to show her actions with publicity that would hopefully set a good example for others to do likewise.

I remember hearing of her program to provide free new books each month to young children as a way to help them develop a love of books and reading. That's surely a case of putting your money where your mouth is. She didn't complain about the literacy problem, she acted on her own to correct it. Bravo to her, I hope it continues to live on.

Edit to say - That's a very touching family message. Diginified.

@carolb_w_fl_coastal_9/10, thank you for the family message video. It summed up Dolly very nicely in the most personal of ways, and it made my eyes leak.

@LoneJack Zn 6a, KC, I’ll have what Willie is having. He just keeps on hanging in there. Saw him at a concert with the Avett Brothers a couple of years ago. He struggled a bit walking onto thenstage, but sounded just like Willie when he played and sang although he spoke about as many of the lyrics as he sang. Still a great show.
