San Diego Show
Comments (26)Back from the show! We had a FABULOUS time, of course! No drizzle for the show~only during my dog walk earlier. Greg did not find me, so not sure what happened. I saw CactusJordi (& bought plants from him), said "Hi!" (only) to Kelly Griffin, as he was talking with someone. Bought LOTS of cart-jumpers (left a few for others), pottery & a book! My neighbor/friend got 7 plants & a couple books (one-just because my name is mentioned it it-ha!). I'm processing several hundred pix. At least most of them came out this time. =D Back with a new post ASAP....See MorePlanning a winter trip to San Diego
Comments (1)The nice thing about coming to San Diego that time of year is that it's the rainy season here (relatively speaking) and the aloes and other succulents will be plumped up and loads of new growth and loads of blooms. It's the best time of year to visit gardens around here. San Diego botanical gardens in Encinitas (use to be called Quail), San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park, the Rose and succulent gardens in Balboa Park, the beach communities like La Jolla and all up the coast have nice parks along with the beachs. I haven't been to the Wild Animal Park out past Escondido in years. I've heard it's declined considerably but that's only through word of mouth. Even going over the mountains and down into Borrego Desert for a day is a treat that time of year. -Ron-...See MoreA few photos from the San Gabriel Winter Show
Comments (17)T, Good eye, that is wire. Aloinopsis is slow but even slower with bonsai treatment. Purchased it about 1yrs ago in a 2in pot and gradually starting exposing more of the roots, every other year a little more. It stays out in the weather year round, gets exposed to 30deg temps(some times lower), pouring rain and hat full sun. Looks sad frequently but comes back every year. I think it the bonsai container and lack of organic matter in the soil that keep it from rotting in the winter. My Boophane stays out all year as well. The Conophytum collection is Larry Grammer's and the pots are from an artist in Tuscon. An elderly woman that only makes a few pots every year. Being in short supply they always sell out. My plants are the Adromischiscus, Pelargonium, Othonnas and Aloinopsis...See MoreSan Diego cutting sale
Comments (37)Since Peg asked, I will burden you with the exciting San Diego cutting sale experience! We got there at 9:00 only to find at least 20 people already in line. Note to self, next year get there 2 hours early. You have a great time waiting in line talking with all the other plumeria fanatics and trying to figure out how to get to the vendors with the rarest cuttings first so the time goes by enjoyably. It helps to take a large bag and a significant other with to carry said bag for maximum efficiency. It wasn't quite as much a feeding frenzy as the rooted plant show at the end of the summer but it did get a little crazy around some of the more popular vendors. I got: Katsetslip. Luscious Pink, Ryan Chelsea, Brittney Nichole, Harumi, Scott Pratt seedling, Can Can, Solana Red, Mele Pa Bowman, Premanoy, Wildfire, Grainy Moragne, Fort Drussey, Flip's Candy Stripe, Del Ray Peach and Just Peachy. A lot of the ones on my list were already sold out or unavailable. I was looking for four cuttings for SimiDude and only one was available. I think Embers was in very short supply. Then on the way home we stopped at Jungle Jack's. Fun day!...See Morerina_Ontario,Canada 5a
