HELP! Need to re-sod and need advice/tips - North Fla - Empire Zoysia
Comments (7)If you're not going to water in the summer, then anything but St Aug will be better than St Aug. It will die if not watered once a month or so. If the zoysia does not do well in the shade, then St Aug is the only option. So then, in prep for sod, no need to rototill or aerate. Just rake or scrape off the surface dead growth. Then lay the sod. Make sure they leave no gaps between sod pieces. The sod pieces should be staggered meaning that it should not look like a checkerboard. They should roll the sod down to ensure good contact between the roots and the soil. Then start watering briefly (5-10 minutes), 3x per day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner times), for the next 2 weeks. Then check a few pieces to see if they have knit to the soil. Try lifting a corner. By then the roots should be biting into the soil. Then you can back off on watering until you are watering deeply (1 inch) and infrequently (once per week max during the hottest heat of summer). That watering schedule may be much different from what your neighbors say and all your local advice, but their daily watering schedule does not develop a great root system. Daily watering also encourages every weed seed to sprout, and you don't want that. So as soon as the sod knits down, start backing off on the watering frequency. Are you interested in an inexpensive organic fertilizing routine. Here is a picture of a zoysia lawn with a handful of alfalfa pellets (rabbit chow) applied a month earlier... You can see the improved color, density and growth. Alfalfa is usually applied at 15-20 pounds per 1,000 square feet. You can buy it at any feed store in 50-pound bags. You and your daughter might appreciate organic....See MoreLiving room re-decorate--Plan B.... Still need advice!
Comments (22)For now, here's where I am: I've moved the sofa to the big wall, and the chair/round table grouping in front of the bay windows. I like it! I've also decided to return the floor lamp, it's just not working anyplace I put it. I really like Beverly's idea (photo) with the grouping of several framed prints above the sofa. I have 10 vintage (late 1800's) fern prints that I could use. They aren't framed, but are matted and have non glare glass held in place with clear gallery clips. However, I'm not sure they are any better "fit" than the bird poster……. I need to find three table lamps--two for each end of the sofa, and another for the round metal table between the two chairs. Here are my three finalists for the sofa end tables: I'd change the shade on this one--I don't like the pleats: All of these are about 27"-29" tall, so I'm thinking the scale would work. As far as the lamp between the chairs in the bay window--I definitely want something different, I've reached maximum matchy-matchy status with the end tables and lamps! Feedback? Thanks again! Comments (1)I see a few things that aren’t horrible, by any means, but could be changed. Mirror and sideboard, for instance, as mirror is too large for the sideboard and it overwhelms the room, reflecting the t v. Try the art over the sideboard and add a floor lamp where the plant is, as it will do double duty for the sofa and the art. Have you ever thought about adding a floor to ceiling strip of trim to separate the dining area from the living area and painting that wall a color? Something like this with a couple of white shelves on that wall?...See MoreHelp - re-Decorating ideas for my home office/den.
Comments (5)A chair (or two) with an ottoman and a table would be great, especially if you are sometimes able to work while sitting in a chair with your coffee, tea (wine) on the table next to you. Is there any way to turn the desk so your back is not to the door and windows? That would bother me. It seems the shape of the desk fits the the way you have it but I wonder if you could turn and float it? If that worked then you also would be able to sit at the desk and talk with someone else in the new chair....I do see you don't have clients but I know my DH comes into my office and we chat. I don't work from home but bring work home and he sometimes comes in while I am finishing stuff up....See Morenatesg
