Hosta J 2017
Comments (52)Joyride, Jetstream and Jessica Alba - what rock have I been living under? I've never seen these plants and now they have stirred up some serious hosta cravings. I may have to make an order this year afterall. Meanwhile here are a few of my J's. A note to myself. This plant burns on the edges and needs to be moved. The first Julie Morss is mine. The second is my sisters. There is some magic at work in her garden because this plant stays variegated all summer....See MoreHosta Lakesides only 2017
Comments (56)mctav, your blue hostas always get my attention! The Lakeside Blue Jeans is beautiful, and the two blues to the left of Lakeside Sparkle Plenty look nice too. This time I gotta ask about a yellow hosta though. If you don't mind, could you tell me what is to the right of Lakeside Storm Watch? I don't have any Lakesides yet, but your guys' Paisley Print looks tempting (as does that Blue Jeans). I had to stop adding any more names to my wish list since it got way too long with this year's alphabet and I probably won't be able to add many hostas on this year. Anxious (and excited) to see if all of last year's additions come back this Spring, and how they look this year. Pip counting can't get here soon enough!...See MoreHosta M 2017
Comments (53)You guys got me interested in looking back on colors of hosta May. I bought it in 2006 from Hosta Choice nursery. They never made a mistake in their plants that I am aware of. I think it must have something to do with the light and sun levels. The first couple years it was in half day sun. Looking back at pictures it stayed creamy yellow. 2009 spring 2009 fall in it's permanent location in 2012 it looks like it turned blue by June in 2015 it was blue again in sept. The only thing I can think of is that is dependent on light. The unearthly turquoise color has always appealed to me with this plant. It has great color through the whole season. Here it is in 2016 (I didn't take may pictures this year)....See MoreHosta X 2017
Comments (46)Thank you for the EE winter storing tips, newhostalady! I have definitely not enough garden for all the plants I want to have. But hellebores are so nice. My old hostafriend has some really big ones and they are in full bloom now, unbelievable in this cold! But this is exactly what makes them interesting. Flowers in the snow...They get as big as hostas with the years just in another time of the year, so that's perfect. I have already been promised some seedlings in summer :-) What are you doing with all those beats kathy? Are they distributed through Mardi Gras? When it is carnival here in Germany you can collect tons of sweets......See MoreDelawareDonna Zone 7A
