Comments (34)Yes, I love the Weeping Willow. It would grow here easily, but I have not enough room for it. Your's is so big and beautiful as the one I remember from my childhood days. The branches went down to the river and we were playing and hiding between them...The good old days, you know...But you are right, the small leaves make a total mess in fall...but during summer it is gorgeous, especially on windy days...all that movement and life...But I will at least plant a corkscrew willow this year and I hope my small Japanese maples have survived the winter, they will be fun,too....See MoreHosta I 2017
Comments (54)nhl, I like seeing your budgie, Coby. She's so pretty, and I know they're very smart and sociable. I don't have inside birds so I like feeding and watching the outside ones. Karin, my brother had mice for pets and one was so smart she would tour the house and then went back to her cage. Our cat didn't bother her. Sorry to hear that kitty was hit by a car. You were trying to help her. I'm also feeding a stray that I think belonged to a neighbor that moved and left her cat behind. Who does that? I think someone threw rocks at her to get her to leave the house she thought was hers. It took her 13 months to allow me to pet her, and she really enjoys it, although she's still easily spooked. She's come inside several times but panics if I close the door, so I'm taking it slow and tell her to stay safe when she's outside. peren.all/ Laurie, how fun to have geese follow you around. I've come across baby skunks and they're really cute and a bit kitten like in their play. All the animals you've helped is just more proof of how kind hearted you are....See Morehosta Q 2017
Comments (53)mae, I love your story. I was like your husband 12 or so years ago, I had no idea how nice a hosta garden looked. I was checking out a neighbors porch sale, and could tell there was some unusual gardening going on in their backyard, so I sort of invited myself to see it. They were (as most gardeners are) more than happy to show me around. When we went to the back, and I saw all their hosta, with plenty of companion plants, I was swooning, yes swooning, and instantly hooked. I blame Mrs. McKee for my sickness. About 5 years later, and another Memorial Day, porch sale, self-invite, she told me they were prepping to sell their house, but needed to downsize the gardens to make it more saleable. She was letting her local hosta society come in that next weekend to purchase FULL clumps of plants for $5-$10, and extended that to me, on condition I join the hosta club. I ended up with 2 pickup truck loads, including a massive clump of Sum & Substance. Two people were needed to dig it, load it, and unload it, which a gentleman from the club graciously offered himself. That's when I fell in love with hosta people. I so enjoy the fellowship of other gardeners while visiting gardens, and having visitors at mine. I'd love to hear other peoples stories too. Maybe we could throw them in with the X-thread?...See MoreHosta Green 2017
Comments (42)funny i've evaluated it for 8 years, its a good one. it has similar parentage to irish luck. invincible open pollinated, but if i had to guess it would be from stingray pollen. which was growing right next to it. when its fresh in the spring its so glossy it looks like a house plant. the introducer felt it had more character than irish luck so we put it into tc which can take over a year to reach market after that....See MoreBeth (5b - SE-Michigan)
