Comments (12)I live in NH and this is my first time with fuchsia. We have our two hanging baskets on our back deck, which gets morning sun till around 1pm or so. The last few days have been hot! near 90 and mine is doing well. Mine was wilting a bit, and someone suggested plant food sticks that you get at the store for 2 or 3 dollars and you just drive them into the soil and it released the food over the course of 3 months or so. Since I put those in the plants are doing GREAT! The wilting went away and they purked up. Now when you say deadheading....what are the dark purple oval shaped things on the plant? Are those the beginning stages of the flowers or the ending? Do I take those off? Also, this might be dumb to ask, but can Fuchsia be kept indoors during winter months?...See Moregrowing heliconia in Melbourne, Victoria
Comments (1)g'day tirto, best i can say is plant them in a warm position that would be one with good northern sun in the winter yet protected from those southern to north westerly cold winds, and keep them well mulched for the coming winter add more in the autumn, keeps the soil warmer for the corms, the tops may die off but the root stock should remain viable. we keep edible ginger going this way. if the garden can have a brick wall behind it all the better but not good to plant gardens or anything within 2 meters of the house foundations. most varieties should grow in these conditions or the only other option is a climate control hot house. now as for flowering they may not as that might be influenced by the length of summer and the length of days along with the ambient temp of winter, in the tropic/sub-tropics nowhere near as low as what you get. len Here is a link that might be useful: lens garden page...See MoreNeed help in grass identification, HELP!
Comments (1)Can't really tell anything from a fuzzy picture taken at that distance. If you can wipe off the lens and get up close (3 inches is close), then take a picture. Pictures in the shade turn out better. Also if you can get a picture of the grass with seed heads on it that makes identification easier. Here's a picture of a hybrid buffalo grass with seed and flowers. This might be what you have....See MoreWill these tropical lilies survive the colder weather here?
Comments (1)Don't know what sort of cold tolerance they have, can you find out from the supplier? Many plants sold these days are hybrids and their tolerances would vary. Water at the bottom of the pond (where the tubers are) would be colder without any circulation going on. With the above ground pond you could probably rig up some sort of solar water heater. The water would probably retain enough warmth over night until sun up when it would start to warm up again....See MoreMarigold33 NY-Z7
