Pets of the Week: Noor and Luz Weather the Remodel
Sister cats cling to their human mom and each other while their home undergoes changes
Noor and Luz escape the pains of their home remodel by spending as much time as they can cuddling with their owner. When that doesn’t work, you’ll find the cats hiding in the closet or behind the washer.
Meet Noor: She loves to curl up in small spaces, such as in this bowl from Morocco. Unfortunately, the duo has since knocked the bowl off the table and broken it. Noor has found new napping spots: the drawers in Seyb’s bedroom closet and the kitchen window sill. Noor has some bad news coming her way though. Seyb says that part of the home remodel includes new custom cabinetry in the closet that the cats won’t be able to get into and the removal of the window sill. “Noor is really going to hate that,” she says.
Meet Luz: She loves to play on the bed in the sunlight. She also likes to look out the window alongside her sister Noor and watch birds, squirrels, possums and other cats, Seyb says.
Luz also loves this patterned sofa. She enjoys napping here but also appreciates that she can use the back of the sofa as a perch to see out of the window.
From the owner: “They usually insist on at least two big cuddle sessions a day, each. And in the evening when I sit on the sofa, they usually both want to be on my lap, so I have to have something to put my legs up on in order to create enough room. They’ve brought a lot of life to my home, a lot of warmth, a lot of fur and some minor damage.”

Pets at a Glance
Pets: Noor, a tortoiseshell cat, and Luz, a tabby cat
Ages: 4 years
Location: Houston
Owner: Ingrid Seyb
Sisterly love: These two cats have always loved to cuddle, especially under the covers in owner Ingrid Seyb’s bed. Seyb shares this photo from the first day she brought them home.
Surviving the remodel: Seyb is in the middle of renovating her home, and the cats aren’t enjoying it, she says. They dash out of sight when contractors arrive and seem bewildered when looking at the home’s changes. When demolition took place, Seyb stayed with her two cats at an Airbnb rental, and they did not like that either, she says. They will have to leave again when the contractors put the final finish on the floor, and Seyb says neither she nor the cats are looking forward to another stay away from home.
