Need help in grass identification, HELP!

I moved from a house that had this type of grass (I guess it is grass) and would like to plant at my new house as it only requires whatever rain you get. If there is no rain it will stay brown and dry but as soon as it gets any water it will turn green. Can anyone tell me from the attached photos what this is? I live in New Mexico where we have been in a drought for ten years and are not allowed to water outside and this grass has survived. It also survives cold weather as we do have nights that are below zero in the winter. Thank You for any assistance. Tree

Can't really tell anything from a fuzzy picture taken at that distance. If you can wipe off the lens and get up close (3 inches is close), then take a picture. Pictures in the shade turn out better. Also if you can get a picture of the grass with seed heads on it that makes identification easier. Here's a picture of a hybrid buffalo grass with seed and flowers. This might be what you have.

Awesome! Thank you so much. What's amusing is this ID is for a friend, who saw the plants somewhere landscaped, but I seriously thought I have been noticing this same plant driving home along a road to my house (in the "country") every night since they asked me what it was! With the ID it really makes sense. donn_ - I'll go grab some seed heads, do I need to wait until they are drier? or can I grab them now when they're still fluffy-like? :) forgive the ignorant question. About all we can tell from that is it is fine bladed and does not get seed heads even when long. It would help to know where you live, not your zone, so we could eliminate some possibilities.
