Dining Room Light Fixture for 1930 English Revival cottage
Comments (9)concreteprimroses- I like all three fixtures you posted, which is probably part of my problem is deciding. I would likely not do a Tiffany fixture though as I have 2 Tiffany lamps in the living room already. I saw a couple of antique fixtures I liked at a local salvage place but they are spendy. This one is beautiful but well beyond my budget: http://www.archantiques.com/ceiling-fixtures/original-fixture-with-stunning-details-by-steuben I would want to do different shades, similar to the art glass shades shown on the 1st fixture): http://www.archantiques.com/ceiling-fixtures/1920s-brass-five-shade-chandelier For new fixtures, I like the two below. The 1st one would be longer than shown and in a different finish (aged brass or bronze?) and I would change the stems to be fluted: http://lightworkslighting.com/Products/sconces/Sheffield/dianemodelenlarged.html I really like the alabaster one, but I'm debating if it's appropriate for the house. Comments (9)I have always been kind of an "anything but white" (as one poster here has called it) person but as we gradually replace our cheap (and dark) aluminum replacement windows with wood windows, I'm working with colour around the windows and beginning to appreciate white or cream. The reason is that when looking out the window during the day, if the frame is dark the window looks like a hole - the framing is so dark in contrast that it is not visible. Of course, if you look at the window frame when lights are on in the room and the curtains closed, it looks fine. White frames, whether it's the actual window box or the moulding around it, pick up the light that is coming in and play with it, illuminating the room better and also allowing the trim, and its detail, to be better seen. I think in Daniaadele's lovely photo, above, you can imagine that if the windowboxes were not white, you would not be able to see any detail of the inside wall or window. So while I like coloured windows in theory, in reality they are maybe not the best idea, and maybe it is a good thing you have white mullions! BUT I am also a big fan of doing what you like, or at least trying it, otherwise you end up staring at it for the rest of your life wondering what it would have looked like. Can you pre-try the painted moulding concept by painting some boards in sage and propping them up in front of the window? Karin L...See MoreRE: Spanish Revival/Mexican/Mediterranean Style - Part IX
Comments (150)BinsB How GREAT! I'd guess by now the 'kids' are knocking from the outside - yes? Paleese post a pic if you can. We'd all (I'm sure) love to see your accomplishments :-))) after waiting soooo long. Love the orange colors of the nursery but mmm - are they really going to sleep in one crib? :-)) Just kidding. When you have time, which likely won't be for awhile I'm sure, would love to see the nursery with the paper flowers, et al. Not to worry about the non-span house of present. It's the spirit inside that can carry it thru. Imagine what a tough time I have in my location. LOL!! You'll have lotsa fun (when/if you can find the time) doing some special stuff in your new abode. Trop - hmmm pictures this year? LOL! That will be fun to see. I'll look forward (but won't hold my breath too awfully long). :-))) I'm thinking maybe you just eliminated the kitchen altogether and are doing take out now? Houseful it's great to have you posting again. Perhaps you can help us breathe some life back into this thread as I know Bins is going to be rather busy over the next while. :-)) If it weren't for her dedication, I'm sure this thread would no longer exist. I have a few things on my plate but hopefully they will be resolved shortly and I can return to my decorating love. And speaking of thread(s), I didn't check but I'm thinking we must be getting close to limit - yes? Should we be starting a new thread? Waddya all think? Take care all, Holly...See MoreExterior colour for Spanish Revival
Comments (13)For anyone reading this post in the future, we settled on a Sherwin Williams 7106 colour called Honied White! We took it down by 25% so that it wasn’t too dark. Also, every white we chose that had a bit of yellow base in it, we were told would fade within 6 months. This honied Yellow is apparently a good base so it wouldn’t have the same problem. We’re not completely finished. I think another coat is to still go up, plus we’ll be doing our steps as well, but this is more or less the reveal!! Thank you you for all the help we were given! We’re quite inlove with the outcome. One before picture and two afters!...See More- 6 years ago
