Something is killing my Hedera Helix - help identify?

Hi,


This little pest killed three of our ivy plants and is now back on the new ones. The leaves slowly start losing color and there are these white dots (I wouldn't even call them mites, they are so tiny) under the leaf which look as if they had been caught in white web:



The "web" is also seen here on the lower part of the overturned leaf:



Discoloration starts showing around the edges of leaves (see the top edge of the one I am holding):



The old plants we had to throw away, after they were infected for a while, started developing a light brown layer around the edge of the pot they were in. The substance looked dry, but was moist inside when wiped off from the pot. I do not have pictures of it.
