I would paint it to match the rest of the walls. Once you hang draperies properly, much of it will disappear. Then re-post if you want to put something there and we'll help you find the right thing to fit between the drapes.

I too would start with curtain panels and then see what you have room left after. Assuming you will be using panels. I also agree with the above on how to hang them.

I am def planning to put up curtains soon. I am leaning towards painting it the same color of the walls but both the contractor and painter suggested we wait and put some artwork/pictures in the panels and see how we feel about it then. Here are some other photos of the room - the shelves are on both sides of the tv - can't take bette pics as of right now since our refrigerator/stove/dishwasher are in the room because we are putting new flooring in the kitchen

I would paint it the same color as the wall and hang the curtains. Just because the wall is a different color doesn't mean you can't still hang a painting.

Find a wallpaper you love which has matching fabric.

Wallpaper within the moldings.

Hang one rod over each window,

Have two full lined panels made of the matching fabric and hang one to the left of window and one to the right of window.

Judy I really like your idea. For the curtains are you saying 2 panels for each window one for the left of the window and one for the right side for each window?

How will your furniture be arranged in this room? Besides curtains, I'd consider whether there is going to be a couch or chairs placed in front of the window wall. That will help you decide what kind of arrangement to do on the feature wall.

Instead of filling in all the grids with something, I'd tend to either let them stand on their own or ignore them and hang art as if there were no grids, as in Laura Hill's examples above.

IMO, feature or accent walls do better if un-pierced by windows or doors, so I'm not sure what the contractor and painter were thinking. Paint it, hang drapes to flank the sides of the windows, and see what space is left of a piece of art, or other decor.

Don't look at the colors or what's used, just look at placement and types of items. this is basically the same set up as your room. put a sofa between the two windows and follow what they've done here, with your own items.

I'm in the process of trying to finding curtains, I'll hang them, put up some art or pictures then I'll make a final decision on whether I'll paint it the room color.

As you can see from the examples, once the furnishings and draperies are installed, the feature will be gone.

I think acm was making a joke - perhaps the contractor/painter was drinking on the job and thus made a poor decision to construct and paint the feature wall.

Agree, I think it looks like it's intentionally covering something - because it's an unnatural placement for a feature wall. If it needed to cover a damaged wall, I probably would have kept it within the height of the top and bottom window trim, not to the ceiling and floor. It kinds of looks like it bleeds out of place.

Once you paint it the same color as the walls, and add your window treatments I think it will look much better. You might want to paint before getting your window treatments installed, unless you are doing the installation yourself in which case it makes more sense to drill all the proper mounting holes, then paint.

I think those shalow niches are screaming to put some art pieces in it. Not sure with the style you prefer, but I have photoshoped this with classy pictures on the wall. Hope this helps.
