Hmmm, just realized I'm clueless - please help
Comments (3)Tastefully, Let me tell you my plans in a similar situation & same zone. I currently have plants throughout my house under 27 shoplights. By this weekend with moderating temps I'll need to make room for the next generation of seedlings by moving many plants to greenhouses. I will heat the greenhouses at night to keep plant from freezing. but the daytime events are as critical. When first moving plants from artificial light to direct sunlight they need a period of modified light adjustment...much like us going onto the beach in Florida after residing in cloudy north all winter. I place them under benches or keep moving them out of direct sunlight and mist them often if leaves start to wilt. They almost always will recover as the sun sets. The hardening process will usually only take a few days to a week. Often plants may be injured by transporting greater distances outside when temperatures are below freezing or in windy weather so minimize exposure by waiting for the right time to move plants. Try to have your heating and ventilation system in operation a day or more before moving plants into the greenhouse so you can trust it to perform. Monitor the temperatures and condition of your plants frequently during their first few days(and nights) in the greenhouse. Listen to weather forecasts and make a disaster plan that may be a simple as moving everything back to your basement/livinroom/bedroom for a few nights....See MoreI'm really green, need help!
Comments (11)Yes! For my larger containers, I usually stick with the large large large sized (like 5 gallon or larger) black, super plain (just like the gallon sized plastic sleeves you'd buy a plant in at the nursery) containers. You can get them for around $5 at Home Depot and the like. I use coffee filters (even used ones work fine-- some plants like the acid from the coffee grounds, but you can use clean ones too) to block the drainage holes so the soil doesn't run out all over the place. But the filters let water drain away just fine. I do have a wine barrel also, though. I didn't treat it or line it with anything-- I just got it home from the do-it-yourself wine place and filled it with potting soil and started planting. I did, though, drill some drainage holes along the bottom perimeter. But that's it. It's held up just fine for the 5 years I've had it. Comments (59)What I called shells are plain tops, like tshirts but nicer??? if that makes sense. If you wear anything sleeveless you must wear a blazer or sweater. The first day went OK. Capris are OK if below the knee. Flipflops are OK on fridays and weekends. Wednesday and Thursday you can wear jeans if you pay a dollar for charity BUT you still have to be business casual. I guess your top half is business casual but your bottom is jeans. No ripped jeans ever. Shoes was not really discussed during our orientation so I have to ask about summer shoes. Like flat sandals that are not flipflops. Almost 18 DD paid me a compliment and she didn't even know it. Those shoe/boots I told you about (not sure what to call them). When I showed her, she tried them on. Said they didn't look that great on her. That's as close to a "I like what you picked out Mom" as I'm going to get, LOL....See MoreWe need our deck replaced and I'm clueless
Comments (7)My composite deck is going on 12 years now and I wouldn't have anything else. In my previous homes we had clear heart redwood so I know what it takes to keep wood looking nice. If you add up the time, effort, and the cost of all your materials that you spend on your current deck each year I think you'll find the price of composite isn't as costly as you think. Before making your decision, research the composites well and try to buy from a lumber supplier that carries a variety of composites. Also make sure your builder understands the extra support composite decks require. I'd share the name of my composite but I can no longer find any info on it. :/ This post was edited by annz on Sun, Feb 23, 14 at 1:30...See MoreMark
