Explain the love for the Miele tiny washing machines?
Comments (20)Thanks!! Well, after much thought and research this weekend, I'm sold on the Miele's and fine with the small capacity. I've learned a lot here, so thank you all! Now I am just making sure that there is anything so special about the little giants vs their new W1 and T1. From the calls I've made today, it seems people were mostly buying the little giants because that was the biggest they could buy for home use, and that reason now goes away with the W1T1. They do handle a bigger work load and should last longer, but that won't be important to me, considering the cost savings of not getting them. It seems the best feature of the Little giants was to add more water, but I'm just going by what I read and really have no knowledge about the subject. The little giants would have solved my layout problems because the door swing worked better for us, so you are right Rocogurl, but because spending 2k more for two washers to solve my problem seems crazy, I'm going to alter the laundry room design. We were only at the shop drawing stage. We have a drain in the room for a sink and another for the washer, so I'll look at some configurations that will work within those parameters. Nothing will be perfect, but the room was never great anyway. So, it looks like 2 W1's and 1 T1. I don't want to stack them because I hate bending, so I am hoping to find room to put them side by side and on a platform. While a 2nd dyer seems nice, Im thinking the dryer is much bigger than the washer, so we can probably wash two loads and put both in the dryer. I don't dry things with elastics to help the longevity, BUT, because the heat pump dryer is supposed to be so much more gentle, I'm wondering if I'll wind up drying a lot more than I currently do. My clothes are not so special, but I just like my things to last. Any thoughts on if the new dryer will replace hang dry? That was a mouth full !!!...See MoreMy miele washing machine doesn't spin out properly after a load
Comments (33)I like Jerrod's suggestion to look at the clean out area at the pump, what ever that is called, lower left front. His comment makes sense to me. Carolina, front loaders clean mechanically too, it tumbles the clothing into a pool of water. This pool of water is, I believe, calculated for depth depending on the programmed cycle. For example "dress shirts" cycle has a deep pool and softens fall of the tumbled clothes. "Whites" is a shallower pool and the fall with each tumble is more aggressive. I also doubt that the 3 hour trip for the washer did anything, unless they tipped the machine onto its side. I have transported 2 old Mieles 6 hour distances without the shipping struts. One machine, the struts were missing, the other I tried using my modern struts and only got one inside to sort of brace the drum. Anyway the machines are fine. Getting jostled down a flight of stairs with a dolly to the basement, without the struts in place. One machine I opened and tested the shocks, as @Linus (Bjorn) suggested and they were perfect....See MoreMiele Washing Machine Twindos
Comments (1)Take the cartridges out with the machine off. Turn the machine on and wait until it boots up. Insert the 1st cartridge. The screen should prompt you about it. Respond to any prompts. Repeat for the 2nd cartridge. It should work after that. The cartridges should click in place when fully inserted....See MoreMiele W1 WXR860WCS washing machine - laundry is oily
Comments (22)The things we can't see over the internet when we talk about detergent dosing are someone else's machine capacity, size of their average laundry load, level of "dirty" on that laundry, and soft/hard water quality. I suspect dosing might be part (or all) of the issue. You mention in your OP that your water is soft and averages 32 ppm. IIRC, Miele detergents are formulated in Europe, where water generally runs hard to very hard, IIRC. My current SQ FL has a 3.5 cu ft capacity. I rarely fill the machine 3/4 full with laundry; usually more like 1/2 to 3/4 full. Our average water hardness is 90 ppm per the 2020 city report. I never use more than half of whatever the detergent package recommends for a 3/4 full load. Usually loads are smaller so even less than that is used. Our clothes generally aren't very dirty, except for hubby's golf clothing that is quite sweaty and grimy with sunscreen on the collars and shorts hems and pockets, which get a half-dose. Everything gets less than a half-dose. Currently, the water here is running softer (we had over 7" rain in July and water supply is sourced from a local large river) and I'm using even less detergent, based on the small pile of suds I see in the gasket after the final spin (I'm retired and have the time to look...LOL) even though there are no visible suds in the wash or rinse water. On small loads (half-full or less), I'm currently using a teaspoon (5 ml) of detergent. And our water has 3x the ppm that yours has. Your machine, at 2.5 cu ft, is even smaller than mine, so dosing might be part (or all) of the problem, IMHO. Using a detergent you've used in the past will help, I think, because you know it....See Moremuddlethru
