Royally Messed Up That Test

Well, I took my timed test this morning and I made a mess of it. None of the questions pertained to my job except maybe the data entry. I skipped over 2 major components of the test because they were tasks you had to do in computer programmes I have never worked with nor will have to in my job. I tried to guess, but no way. Then there were questions pertaining to acronyms. Like where would I send an employee who was having trouble outside their job. I had never seen any of those acronyms nor will use them in my job and believe me my job entails heavy use of acronyms. I guessed and chose one and it was ADA and my friend said that was the American Dental Association. Well we had a good laugh about that. hahaha. I guess I could send an employee there if they had trouble with their teeth outside of work. I am Canadian, I expect the acronyms to be Canadian based. Oh boy. There was a section on data entry, no instructions so I kept looking at it trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. Skipped the first entry, then looked at it again and figured they wanted me to type what was shown into fields next to it. I also couldn't find the space where I had to put our district number so not really sure if my test was submitted or not. I don't have long distance and the only number for me to call was long distance. I sent an email instead. I talked to my RO and he said not to worry about the test, I still have my job thankfully but that wouldn't have been the case a few weeks ago before there were a lot of complaints about this test. None of it was relevant to my job. Thanks for all the support you gave me in my previous post. I laughed at myself and said 'thank God I don't drink alone at home or I would want a drink' haha.

Can't hardly believe it but I received a phone call this morning from my Returning Officer who got the results of the tests and he said I passed and did quite well. haha I didn't believe him one bit but he said it was true. We go out of town for training in April. After the sad week I have had this was good news

Aww, I'm sure you didn't do as poorly as you think! The test sounds badly instructed. I'm so glad your job is still safe and not reliant on the test! Do you feel relieved that it's over?

Hi everyone. I have a problem similar to Ty's, but until I got here and read this thread, I didn't know I'd done anything wrong. I was in fact roaming around the site trying to figure out what to do about the aphids on my honeysuckle, and why a small, thorny, rose?-bush was yellowing insanely. I came to this thread just to make sure I hadn't done anything Ty did, but I think I have. I'm a total Newbie (just signed up last night), I'm doing this alone with no actual from-scratch gardening experience except sowing seeds indoors, and a bit of pruning under my belt. My house plants are all quite healthy, and I've been known to be a recovery center for the ailing plants of friends and family members. Tackling an entire garden seemed slightly insane to me, but I thought it would be a rewarding challenge. I'm going to start a new thread with my specific issues, but I thought it best to begin here since this is where my panic began. I live in zip 11354/11357. What was once a lush lawn of kentucky blue, cared for by my parents and their hired landscapers, became overrun with weeds and zero grass over the 2 years since they moved to another home. They planned on selling this house quickly, so we weren't putting any money or time into landscaping here, but things have changed and now I'm trying to make it beautiful and my own, as I will probably be here for a few more years. I have virtually no garden tools (I know you'll yell at me for this) but I put down some weed-killer with a hose, then borrowed a garden claw from a family friend, and have spent the last 3 weeks tearing up the ground and manually pulling out roots of weeds, digging deep into the dirt with my hands to get as much root out as possible. I finally finished the area I'd like to use as a lawn, but have noticed little green sprouts popping up in the areas I'd tackled weeks ago. Do I go over it again with weedkiller? I've not planted anything new as I only finished tearing up the area last night. I will attempt to post pics of my before and after. Do you have safety concerns or flavor concerns? There are no safety issues. Peaches are high-acid and could be canned safely in just plain water. The lower ratio of sugar may mean the peaches will soften a bit more quickly but otherwise it's just a matter of how well you like rum! Rum and peaches are often combined, so you may find you enjoy the result. However, these peaches taste, they won't be at their best until they've aged a bit. Carol

You need to get a phone call to the fabricator one way or the other. Even if that means leaving at lunch time, or whatever. I would imagine that's a pretty fair chunk of change that you're handing over. The worst of it is if they'd been patient enough to hang around for a few more minutes and wipe off the excess, it wouldn't take them any more time, and they'd have a satisfied customer. I guess some installers just like a little drama in their lives. Meanwhile, I'm PRAYING you haven't given them full payment yet, or if you have, that it was done by credit card, so it can be disputed, in case you get a hard time from them.

Hey y'all -- thanks. I did mock it up, or close-enough (seems I forgot to mention that above; sorry. It was fun -- there's finally a roughtop in place so I sketched out the sinks and projections). It's poised for a big space so surprisingly, its purported massiveness will probably work. As warmfridge and probably others noted, its 9.5" "throw" will too. At this point, frankly, I'm mostly worried about the droll warnings on here about its off-brandedness. I'm not really sure what to make of that, frankly, as so many customers seem giddy with excitement about the Kraus. Unfortunately not, seemingly, from this site (that is, they're not unhappy with it here, there just seems to be silence regarding it). And of course it is completely true that I cannot and have not felt it. But I am cognizant that even though there a large number of accolades, few if any of them represent anything other than happiness with appearance, as opposed to function. I think it is Buehl who posts periodically to remind people that offbrand sinks, namely Kraus, are just wonderful. And many have taken her advice and are happy for having done so. However Sinks and faucets are likely very different animals. FWIW I too bought a Kraus sink and while it isn't installed, I'm as thrilled with the next about the packaging (I'm not kidding, most of the accolades wax on and on about the packaging; that is why their owners are so happy!). So ... it's kind of news to me that I'm coming across as such a name-brand devotee but maybe it's true. I guess I think I want to remember how much is getting spent overall and not go crazy about saving pennies and losing the dollars. (pennywise-pound foolish). And I hear you saying that's the case here. No offense but I also hear you saying you just don't know. And that's where I'm a little stuck. I don't actually think there's anything inherently wrong with Chinese offbrand products -- I could be wrong of course, particularly when there are working, moving parts involved and also conversely when the price differential may not be so huge. But having come to all this with no experience whatsoever, the idea of spending hundreds on a faucet has me agape. I had no idea a person could spend that much money on a faucet. I would have thought they were about $1-200 max. That's how out of it I am. I guess one question I have is: how difficult is it to replace a faucet if/when this one stops functioning? I just learned, to my surprise, that the counter guys route out the holes after the tops have been largely cutout. That's good news as therefore one could punch a new hole in place if necessary. Covering up one would obviously be more problematic but I'm sure people figure out creative solutions for even that. So I'm leaning toward johnliu's point of just getting it and seeing. This, BTW, is where I usually wind up getting off the shopping train: before ever reaching the station. That is, this is why even though I'm located in a megalopolis of shoppers, I wind up buying most everything sight-unseen. I'm interested in what I choose; not in what I don't! Nevertheless, I will foray to a couple more stores today. I am mystified by rococo's memory of a large showroom. I'm sure it has to be true, but I am also sure I have zero idea where it might be. I could call my KD but she's so incompetent... I have tried to converse with her about this issue and it's not as if she said: "oh, just go to xyz and you'll see it all splayed out in front of you there". True I didn't ask the question but it would seem the obvious thing to offer were it to exist. And geesh, drolldavid - do I complain on here that much? I am very glad it is over! Thanks. RO, is the Returning Officer who I work with. I know I did badly, skipping over 2 major components would most likely be a fail. I know I did well on the basic use of a computer questions, I did fairly well on customer service questions, the HR portion not so good because the questions were not relevant to my particular job. Most questions were multiple choice so I just clicked on whatever whether right or wrong if I didn't know. If you skipped a question you could not go back. Each section was also timed.

I am sure you are glad it's all over. You have been stressing about this for ages! Also glad your job was not test-dependent. From your description of what they were asking for and how it did NOT apply to your position, you have to wonder what the point of it all was..........

Gardengal. that is why everyone was so upset about this test and the questions. It wasn't necessary and too many long time good workers were stressing if they would still have a job. I heard some of them didn't take the test because they knew they would fail it. They should have scrapped the test after they realized it wasn't relevant. I am just glad that stress has gone from my life.

haha and I don't like using acronyms. It is like a new language. Some pages of information I get is almost all acronyms and sometimes hard to read and decipher. Drives me crazy.

I hate when a test doesn't pertain to what is actually necessary. I realize sometimes there are "trick" questions to see how ones think, but to take a long time test that will be useless is ridiculous.

What was the point of you having to take this test?

No doubt you were stressing, I’m really sorry you had to go through that Cherryfizz. From the sound of it, it seems like that test just sets people up to fail.

Isn't ADA also Americans with Disabilities Act? Probably not in Canada tho.

( My daughter for one of her accounting exams was absolutely sure that she wouldn't pass. She proved herself wrong. :-). She was in the higher grades for that exam. You just never know :-) )

I'm so glad it worked out for you as well. Enjoy the training.

Maybe that was a broad spectrum test and you were not expected to know the answers to every question; Just be knowledgeable about your area of expertise and possibly uncover unsuspected regions where you did have knowledge. That's how the test for a Professional Engineering License is designed. In my state, a wide variety of engineer types take the same test. You are expected to do well in your area of expertise. Also, there are few problem posed that do not have clear clean-cut answers. You are supposed to recognize these before spending much time on these and leave those to last if there is time.

At least, you do know how to spell "acronym". That's a plus. <grin>
