lbs per square ft settings on a drop spreader?
Comments (1)No spreader will give you lbs per 1000 sq ft. Every fertilizer brand makes different size pellets that flow through at different rates. The major manufactures will have a conversion chart on their bags - eg use setting #7 on a scott's drop spreader....See MoreMarking with a drop spreader.
Comments (1)Here are two things I do. I purposely use less than the recommended amount for the initial application. After covering all of the lawn, I repeat with the remaining amount. More work but no zebra. Second: I use 5 or 6 screwdrivers to help mark the 5 ft.(?) wide area covered by the spreader. If the stretch of lawn to be covered is straight, I will stick one in the ground to mark the beginning, the middle, and the end of the track. If curved, I may use 3 or 4. From the other end, I repeat the return process, picking up the screwdriver and putting it on the other side of the spreader to mark the newer track. Why six? Some of the areas to be covered are not square and my lawn is laid out in several islands. Not very scientific but is helpful....See MoreDrop Spreader vs Rotary Spreader
Comments (15)I've gone through 3 rotary spreaders. Each one was "better" than the last (more $$ too). Currently I have an AgriFab tow behind for a riding mower. My 2-cents? Buy cheap, use 2 seasons, toss! Why? Because I haven't been able to find a good one. To me good = one that works and lasts. The previous rotary (Scott"s) was ate-up by corrosion even with washing out after use. This season I've had to replace the trap door on the AgriFab and now I need to replace the sling-er. In both cases the "plastic" pieces died, they came apart in my hands - not good. Also the adjustment for the dump slot on the AgriFab is poor - it won't open smoothly, nor square and the adjustment goes up to 10. The 10 is a least 1/2" wide, what would I spread through a 1/2" slot? Chattahoochee stone?? I'd rather see the adjustable slot be up to 1/4", maybe a little over, have a Stainless Steel blade and adjust in 1/10" increments. cvt...See MoreDrop Spreader vs. Broadcast Spreader
Comments (1)Whether to use a drop spreader or a broadcast spreader depends as much on how much territory needs to be covered as what the material to be dispensed is. A drop spreader might not produce as much dust, but when I have used one for limestone there is at least enough to cover my feet while I've not had any dust, on me, from the limestone when using a broadcast spreader, but then my broadcast spreader pulls behind the tractor. A walk behind broadcast spreader may be different. A drop spreader will cover much less territory per trip then a broadcast spreader will....See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
